โSANTO TOMAS, DAVAO DEL NORTE โ In a powerful display of community spirit and technical expertise, the Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTEd) program successfully concluded its community extension project, "Tinapay sa Barangay," today, April 23, 2026, at Barangay Bobongon.
โ
โThe initiative was made possible through a strategic collaboration with the Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) program by providing the necessity of baking ingredients, baking pan, and baking sheets in need to start the livelihood, also a vital partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region XI.
โ
โMoreover, the "Tinapay sa Barangay" project was designed to provide residents of Barangay Bobongon with sustainable livelihood opportunities by leveraging the specialized skills of the BTVTEd students and faculty. A total of 29 local recipients were selected to undergo intensive training, transitioning them into skilled bakers equipped to start or join community-based baking enterprises.
โ
โMarietta A. Villanueva, the Focal Person for Community Extension, emphasized during the event that the program's impact goes beyond simple outreach.
โ
โ"This extension is not merely a community enrichment activity; it is a deliberate opportunity to create sustainable livelihoods for the barangay and our recipients," Villanueva stated.
โ
โThe project served as a practical application of the BTVTEd curriculum, specifically aligned with the Food Service and Management major. By teaching professional baking techniques, the program bridged the gap between academic theory and grassroots community development.
โ
โThe success of the event was attributed to the dedicated efforts of Jovelyn M. Simbajon, MAEM, TVES Adviser and TVES Officers, who spearheaded the logistics and technical demonstrations. Barangay Captain Marcelino and the Barangay Council, whose local support ensured the smooth ex*****on of the training.
โ
โBy merging the administrative oversight of the BPA program with the technical "know-how" of BTVTEd, the "Tinapay sa Barangay" initiative stands as a testament to how higher education institutions can effectively partner with government agencies like the DSWD to foster economic resilience at the barangay level.
โ
โAs the 29 new bakers receive their certifications, Barangay Bobongon moves a step closer to self-sufficiency, proving that when education meets community needs, the results are truly "rising" to the occasion.
