BEYOND THE LAW BOOKS
The Mentors behind the Making of NCnian Lawyers

Behind every case we read, every doctrine we study, and every lesson we learn are mentors who dedicate their time, knowledge, and passion to shaping the next generation of NCnian lawyers.

This week, the NC College of Law proudly introduces “Beyond the Law Books: The Mentors Behind the Making of NCnian Lawyers,” a special feature that celebrates the dedication and passion of our esteemed law professors, not only as educators inside the classroom, but also as mentors who inspire, guide, and help shape the character of future NCnian lawyers.

Beyond the statutes, cases, and legal principles are stories of perseverance, experiences that shaped their journey, guiding principles that define their practice, and words of wisdom that continue to inspire their students.

Through this initiative, we invite the NC Law community to look beyond the law books and get to know the people behind the lessons—their stories, their values, and the wisdom they hope to impart to the next generation of NCnian lawyers.

Because the law is not learned from books alone. It is also learned from those who live by it, teach it, and inspire others to uphold it.

52 NC Law Students Take Oath as Law Student Practitioners

A total of 52 Juris Doctor students of the NC College of Law formally took their oath as Law Student Practitioners under the Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP), following the conferment of their Level 1 and Level 2 Certifications pursuant to Sections 5 and 9(c) of Rule 138-A of the Rules of Court.

Of the 52 students, 48 were conferred Level 1 Certification, while 4 received Level 2 Certification, signifying their qualification to undertake the responsibilities and activities authorized under the CLEP framework.

The oath-taking ceremony took place on October 2, 2026, at the Regional Trial Court, Branch 21, Santiago City, and was administered by Hon. Judge Nicasio B. Bautista III.

This milestone marks another significant step in the students’ journey toward becoming future members of the legal profession, as they gain meaningful exposure to the practice of law through clinical legal education.

After months of preparation, sacrifice, sleepless nights, and three days of the Bar Examination, our NCnian Barristers finally walked out of the testing room—and the NC Law community was there to welcome them home.

From the chants outside the testing center to the smiles, tears, hugs, and words of encouragement, every voice echoed one message:

For months, you have studied, sacrificed, endured, and prepared for this moment. Today, you face the final two subjects of the 2026 Bar Examinations—Criminal Law in the morning, and Remedial Law, Legal and Judicial Ethics, with Practical Exercises in the afternoon.

This is it. One final push. One final fight. One final day.

Whatever comes your way, stay calm. Trust what you have learned. Trust the preparation that brought you here. And above all, place your faith in God.
