11 DIS Learners benefit from School-Based Eye Health Drive
DUBINAN INTEGRATED SCHOOL โ Eleven identified learners of Dubinan Integrated School benefited from a school-based eye health activity conducted at the school's conference room yesterday as part of the City of Santiagoโs celebration of Sight Saving Month this August.
The activity was spearheaded by the City Health Office (CHO) in partnership with the Integrated Philippine Association of Optometrists (IPAO)โIsabela Chapter, bringing eye health services closer to learners who may be experiencing vision problems.
The initiative included eye check-up and vision screening, particularly for learners identified with possible visual difficulties. Those found with visual impairment or refractive errors were also given the opportunity to undergo eye refraction to determine their appropriate visual correction.
The activity was coordinated by Medical, Dental and Nursing Services School Coordinator Mary Jane Valiente, with the support of School Principal Joy C. Gabriel, ensuring the smooth implementation of the school-based intervention.
For the identified learner-beneficiaries, the activity provided an important opportunity to have their vision checked and receive appropriate intervention that could help them perform better in school.
The City Health Office said the program aims to promote the early detection and management of vision problems among school-aged children and address visual difficulties that may affect classroom participation and academic performance.
The initiative forms part of a wider citywide effort targeting approximately 300 students with identified vision problems, who may receive prescription eyeglasses as part of the intervention.
With accessible eye care services brought directly to schools, the program underscores the importance of healthy vision as a foundation for effective learning, helping learners see clearly, participate actively, and reach their full academic potential.
