/i-sem/ means smile in Ilocano. It is a noun or verb representing the act of smiling or a smile itself. It is a common, heartwarming term often used to express warmth or happiness in daily conversation.

You can sit next to someone, start talking, and somehow it just feels easy. Natural. Like you’ve known each other longer than you actually have. There’s comfort there—something real, even if it doesn’t last long. And then suddenly, your flights are called, and that’s it—you’re heading in different directions.

Life is like that sometimes. Some people come into your life and make everything feel lighter. They sit with you in your quiet moments, make the waiting less heavy, and somehow turn loneliness into something bearable. But they were never really meant to stay.

And maybe the hardest truth is this: just because someone mattered deeply, doesn’t mean they were meant to remain.

Iliw is an Ilocano term (often used in Tagalog) for a deep sense of longing, homesickness, yearning, or intense nostalgia for a person, place, or past experience. It represents a profound emotional desire or craving.

Today is the 40th Anniversary of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution that restored democracy in the Philippines.

We enjoin the Filipino People, especially the youth, to reflect on the principles and values that the EDSA Revolution imprinted in history. May this annual commemoration remind us that the power to change lies in the hands of the people now and of the generations to come.

KADLiT joins the nation in remembering the declaration of Martial Law fifty-one (51) years ago. Proclamation No. 1081, signed by President Ferdinand E. Marcos, placed the entire Philippines under Martial Law in an effort to allegedly combat the rising threat of communist insurgency in the country.
