Eugene Delos Santos does not only teach dance to let others learn the steps and techniques. Production, and Phil. But, Eugene is not all ballet.
He teaches dance because he wants his students to experience its colorful and fun-filled world. Born on June 2, 1965, Eugene had discovered his passion when he was still very young. He and his siblings would always put up shows for their parents after dinner time, with him most of the time getting the lead role. With this piece of history, no wonder he chose to pursue his career in the art that he
most loved. In 1981, Eugene started studying ballet in Dance Theatre Philippines, under Felicitas Radaic, Steve Villaruz, and Sonia Domingo starting from corps de ballet (ensemble dancing) and worked up for soloist status. During his education in Dance Theatre Philippines, Eugene was required to pass a Major Examination under the Royal Academy of Dancing (London, UK) to be officially accepted in the company. With exceptional grace and promising talent, he passed the Elementary Executants Major Examination. Eugene then joined numerous dance companies such as BALLET Phil., SRO Phil. Ballet Theatre; and performed in its full-length ballets such as GISELLE, SWAN LAKE, NUTCRACKER, ROMEO & JULIET, EVITA, and DON QUIXOTE, where he played the lead role of Sancho Panza. He also danced the lead role of Dr. Coppelius for the ballet COPELLIA under Julie Borromeo’s Performing Arts School at the Meralco Theatre, Ortigas, Phil. His talent can stretch to different styles and to different areas of dance-performing. He became a lead performer on “VILMA” for nine years, one of the longest running and multi-awarded musical television shows during the early 90’s. He also danced and choreographed stage and recording artist RACHEL ALEJANDRO’S major concerts held at the Music Museum and the PICC. A world-class performer like him bagged him a place in the international level. Eugene became a dance faculty of Dance Circles Studios in Singapore and taught ballet, jazz, modern dance and hip-hop; danced and choreographed a club show in Nagoya, Japan; conducted a dance workshop in Music and Motion Fitness Club in Brunei, Darussalam; conducted a dance workshop for the Filipino community in Australia; and was hand-picked by TESDA to become a testing officer for their Dance Skills Testing Program Overseas, where he screened local dancers if they are competent to perform abroad. Aside from being passionate about his work, Eugene is devoted to giving back his talent to the Lord through helping the religious community. He offered his talent to become a guest performer in a Peace Concert in Vallejo, California, USA. He also helped the Redemptorist Fathers of Singapore in organizing spiritual retreats, workshops, and youth camps; and choreographed and performed for the church major events. Likewise, he worked as a dance consultant for the Redemptorist Mission Team. With his youthful energy and colorful personality, Eugene can immediately create a connection between him and his students. This was evident when he became Dance Master of METTA (Mother Eugenie Theatre of Assumption-official theatre group of Assumption College, San Lorenzo, Makati), where he provided training and choreography for the students in their musical-“HUNDRED MILLION MIRACLES.”
After coming from places abroad, performing with prestigious dance companies, and making his name in the spotlight of performing arts, his goal now is to pass down his art to the younger generation through his other passion: teaching. Teaching what dance is, teaching why a talent should not be concealed, and teaching how one’s talent could help others and glorify God. He did not stop working with children and the youth. He became the choreographer for the major productions of Seven Pillars Theatre Arts Workshop namely “Lion King: Rule the Land, Rule With Peace”, and “Moses: The First Exodus.” Dull moments did not exist when he trained the cast. His way of teaching always had a touch of excitement to it, and an encouragement drives you to overcome the difficulty of the routines. Some people say that when you have worked with this guy, you will always want him there.

In recent years, dance in worship has become an increasingly popular element of church services. Depending on the denomination and the training of the performers, a dance may be a choreographed balletic piece, a fusion of contemporary styles, or free movement, integrated in the service.
