In a significant move towards enhancing the global perspective of future educators, Bernadette L. Oballes, a fourth-year Bachelor of Secondary Education student majoring in English at Pangasinan State University, Sta. Maria Campus, is set to embark on an exciting journey as part of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) SEA-Teacher Project. This prestigious opportunity, scheduled from June 9 to June 27, 2025, will see Bernadette collaborate with Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka (UHAMKA) in Jakarta, Indonesia, as part of the 10th batch of the Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange Program.
The SEA-Teacher Project aims to provide pre-service teachers like Bernadette with valuable teaching experience and cultural exchange, better preparing them to face the evolving challenges in global education. The project is designed to promote mutual understanding and enrich the knowledge of future educators by immersing them in a new academic and cultural environment.
For Oballes, this experience represents a pivotal moment in her journey towards becoming an educator. As she enters the classrooms of UHAMKA, she will gain insight into Indonesiaโs educational system while bringing her expertise and passion for teaching English. This internship presents an opportunity for her to apply the knowledge she has acquired at Pangasinan State University and to learn from her international counterparts, fostering a collaborative environment for growth.
Throughout this transformative experience, Bernadette will be mentored by Dr. Kristine May D. Casibang, a dedicated educator who will provide continuous guidance and support during her internship. Dr. Casibangโs mentorship will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping Oballes into a well-rounded and culturally aware teacher, equipped to educate students from diverse backgrounds.
The SEA-Teacher Project is more than just an internship; it is a platform for cultural exchange. As Bernadette immerses herself in Indonesian culture, she will have the chance to broaden her horizons, learning firsthand about the countryโs rich heritage and its approach to education. This experience will also enhance her communication skills, which are essential for teaching students from various cultural contexts.
Moreover, her journey signifies a step forward in strengthening the ties between the Philippines and Indonesia in the field of education. The cultural exchange and knowledge sharing will allow future educators from both countries to collaborate, fostering stronger regional cooperation in educational development.
Oballes' international internship is not just an academic milestone; it is a testament to the power of education in bridging gaps and creating lasting relationships between nations. As she embarks on this exciting journey, she is not only enhancing her own professional growth but also contributing to the global community of educators, bringing back valuable insights to share with her peers at PSU.
With the support of her university and the SEA-Teacher Project, Oballes is on the path to becoming a well-rounded, globally aware educator ready to make a difference in the classroom and beyond.
This opportunity is truly a life-changing experience that will shape Bernadetteโs career for years to come, serving as an inspiration to other aspiring educators to seize opportunities that will enhance their growth and promote international cooperation in the realm of education.
