Last Friday, July 31, 2026, St. Paul School of Sta. Maria, Inc. (SPSSM) successfully held the second part and culmination of its Nutrition Month Celebration through a Filipino Dishes Cooking Challenge.
Parents from Grades 4 to 6 showcased their culinary talents by preparing two well-loved Filipino dishesโmenudo and pakbet. Each group presented delicious, nutritious, and beautifully plated dishes, reflecting their creativity and dedication.
Adding significance to the celebration, some SPC Sisters visited SPSSM to witness the event and they were warmly welcomed by the entire school community. During the program, Sister Marissa Mendez, SPC, the school principal, delivered an inspiring message encouraging pupils to develop healthy eating habits by choosing nutritious foods that help strengthen the body and boost the immune system.
The Filipino Dishes Cooking Challenge highlighted the importance of preparing healthy and nutritious meals while promoting proper food preparation, teamwork, cleanliness, hygiene, and attractive food presentation. The grades 4, 5 and 6 pupils observed intently while the parents were preparing the ingredients and cooking the viands which were also shared to them as their lunch. Through this meaningful activity, participants celebrated Filipino cuisine while reinforcing the value of good nutrition and healthy living.

As part of the celebration of Nutrition Month 2026, St. Paul School of Sta. Maria, Inc. (SPSSM) held a Sandwich-Making Contest, featuring squash as the main ingredient for the sandwich spread. The activity was spearheaded by Mr. Godwin Jerome Reyes, the teacher-in-charge for the month of July.
Parents from Grades 1 to 3 enthusiastically participated in the contest, dedicating their time, creativity, and effort to prepare delicious and nutritious sandwiches. Their creations were not only presented for the judges and teachers to taste, but were also lovingly prepared for their children to enjoy.
The prepared sandwiches were carefully evaluated by the panel of judges composed of Sister Ashane Ann Califlores, SPC, Sister Manilyn Landicho, SPC, and Mrs. Rebecca Mendoza. Each entry was assessed based on its presentation, cleanliness, creativity, nutritional value, quality, and overall taste, ensuring that every sandwich met the standards of a healthy and appetizing meal.
Through activities like this, SPSSM continues to promote healthy eating habits among learners. Our dear principal, Sr Marissa Mendez, SPC, encouraged our children to eat a balanced diet by including foods from the three basic food groups: Go, Grow, and Glow Foods to help them stay healthy, active, and strong.
