We have bowed under alien power for over three centuries. Three centuries of suffering, oppression, and deprivation of the right to live as free citizens. But the flame of being a Filipino never extinguished.

With every drop of blood shed, with every cry of liberation, and with every life our heroes sacrificed, a nation of honor and freedom was born. On June 12, 1898, not only the flag was raised in Kawit, Cavite but also the hope of a nation who has long fought for the right to live freely.

On this 128th anniversary of Independence Day, let us remember that freedom is not just a part of our history. This is accountability. This is a legacy. And above all, it is a pledge that we will continue to fight for truth, unity, and love for the nation.

Because the freedom we are enjoying today is the result of yesterday's sacrifice, and the future of the Philippines depends on Filipinos who are willing to love and fight for it now.

Mahigit tatlong siglo tayong yumuko sa ilalim ng dayuhang kapangyarihan. Tatlong siglong puno ng paghihirap, pang-aapi, at pag-agaw sa karapatang mamuhay bilang malayang mamamayan. Ngunit hindi kailanman napatay ang alab ng pagiging Pilipino.

Sa bawat patak ng dugong dumanak, sa bawat sigaw ng paglaya, at sa bawat buhay na inialay ng ating mga bayani, isinilang ang isang bansang may dangal at kalayaan. Ngayong ika-128 anibersaryo ng Araw ng Kalayaan, alalahanin natin na ang kalayaan ay hindi lamang bahagi ng ating kasaysayan. Ito ay pananagutan. Ito ay pamana. At higit sa lahat, ito ay panata na ipagpapatuloy nating ipaglaban ang katotohanan, pagkakaisa, at pagmamahal sa bayan.

Sapagkat ang kalayaang tinatamasa natin ngayon ay bunga ng sakripisyo ng kahapon, at ang kinabukasan ng Pilipinas ay nakasalalay sa mga Pilipinong handang mahalin at ipaglaban ito ngayon.
