We are raising children in a world that is louder than ever.
They are learning from screens before they can understand the world, hearing voices we cannot always filter, and being taught what to love, desire, and believe by people they have never met.
So perhaps one of the greatest gifts we can give them is not a perfect childhood, but a sure foundation in Christ.
Teach them the Gospel.
Teach them that they are deeply loved, but that love is not found in the approval of the world.
Teach them that sin is real, but so is grace.
Teach them that they will fail, but Jesus is merciful.
Teach them that Jesus did not come merely to make their lives easier, but to make them new.
Teach them to pray before they learn to panic.
Teach them Scripture before the world teaches them its version of truth.
Teach them that their worth is not measured by likes, beauty, grades, possessions, or the opinions of others.
But more than teaching themโlet them see the Gospel in you.
Let them see you repent when you are wrong.
Let them see you forgive when you have been hurt.
Let them see you choose kindness when anger would be easier.
Let them see you open your Bible when life becomes difficult.
Let them see you trust God when you do not have all the answers.
Because children may forget many of our instructions, but they will remember the faith they saw us live.
We cannot keep every darkness from reaching them. We cannot silence every voice or control everything they will one day encounter.
But we can give them a compass.
We can teach them that when the world says, โFind yourself,โ Christ says, โCome to Me.โ
When the world says, โYou are what you achieve,โ the Gospel says, โYou are loved by grace.โ
And when they eventually walk beyond the shelter of our homes, may they carry something stronger than our protectionโthe knowledge of Jesus Christ, the truth of His Gospel, and the memory of a home where they learned what it meant to follow Him.
