ALAM NIYO BA? | Ang taong nasa likod ng diretsong pagsasalin ng Bibliya sa Tagalog mula sa orihinal nitong linggwahe na Hebrew at Greek

Habang ipinagdiriwang natin ang "National Bible Week" mula Enero 18 hanggang 23 at ang "National Bible Sunday" sa Enero 24, magbibigay tayo ng kaunting kaalaman tungkol sa Banal na Bibliya. Sa araw na ito, mas makikilala natin ang taong nasa likod ng pagsasalin ng Bibliya sa Tagalog.

Siya si Rev. Msgr. Jose C. Abriol, isang Paring Pilipinong Katoliko. Siya ay linguist o bihasa sa ibat-ibang wika. Siya ay hindi matatawarang bihasa sa hindi bababa sa walong wika: Spanish, Latin, Greek, Hebrew, French, Italian, German, English at Filipino.

Siya ang kauna-unahang nakapagsalin ng Bibliya sa Tagalog ng diretso mula sa orihinal nitong linggwahe na Hebrew at Greek.,
• Ang Bagong Tipan (The New Testament)
• Ang Lumang Tipan (The Old Testament)
• Ang Banal na Biblia (The Holy Bible)

Siya rin ang unang nagsalin ng Pilipinong Biblia na kabilang ang 7 Deuterocanonical Books o ang Bibliyang naglalaman ng 73 books.

Kaya naging matagumpay ang kaniyang pagsasalin dahil kilala siya bilang isa sa mga pinakaintelektuwal sa kasaysayan ng Simbahang Katolika sa Pilipinas. Minsan rin siyang naging Rector sa Manila Cathedral mga taong 1962 hanggang 1975.

Pero, hindi lamang kumpletong Bibliya ang kaniyang naiambag sa Simbahan dahil marami pa siya naisulat bago siya pumanaw dahil sa cardiac arrest taong 2003 sa edad na 85 katulad ng mga:

• Prayers to the Virgin Mary
• Sunday Missals
• The Via Crucis (Ways of the Cross)
• Siete Palabras (Seven Last Words of Christ)
• Translation of Pope John Paull II's Encyclical Fides et Ratio (Faith and Reason) na naisalin bilang Pananampalataya at Katwiran.

Nawa'y maging inspirasyon natin ang isang tulad ni Fr. Jose upang ipagpatuloy ang pagibig sa Simbahan.

Hindi laging sang-ayon sa’tin ang takbo ng buhay.

May mga gabing hindi tugma ang ating isip at puso. Kung minsan nama’y maglalaban ang saya at lungkot. O kung kailan tinatahak mo na ang daan tungo sa’yong pangarap, tsaka naman maglalaro ang mundo.

Hindi perpekto — kadalasan ay labo-labo. Magulo, nakakalito, at nakakapagod. Sasagarin ka niya hanggang sa maisip mo nang huminto — o sumuko. Ipaparamdam niya sa’yo ang bigat — at kahit mabigat, huwag ka sanang tumalikod.

Dahil kahit maraming bakit, paano at sig**o, sigurado akong magbabago ang panahon. Darating ang mga araw na mas magaan kaysa kahapon. Ang bawat hirap ay mapapalitan ng ginhawa at ang dahilan ng bawat pagluha ay hindi na lungkot kun’di saya.

Kaya kahit hindi laging sang-ayon sa’tin ang takbo ng buhay, damahin mo ang bawat pagod, hirap, saya, at lungkot dahil dala nito ay pagkatuto na babaunin mo hanggang dulo —

at magpapaalala sa’yo na kinaya mo.

CWC APPEALS TO CEASE CONDEMNATION TOWARDS THE CHILD OF THE POLICE OFFICER INVOLVED IN THE KILLING OF SONIA AND FRANK GREGORIO

In the wake of the senseless killing of Sonia and Frank Gregorio on December 20, 2020 in Paniqui, Tarlac, by Police Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca, the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) appeals to the public to spare the child of the police officer from condemnation and cyberbullying as caught in the video.
The child's behavior may have infuriated people, having spewed unintended words during the incident's filming. However, the child's cognitive ability to control emotional impulse and regulate emotions are still under development at the early stage of her childhood.
We must understand that the child's behavior may be evident of her observational learning towards her environment and by learning through the authority figures in her life. In a simpler context, a child's behavior, in general is a product of his or her environment. It will reflect the kind of parenting he/she received, how the key persons in his/ her life behave and interact with one another, and possibly being raised in a prevailing culture of violence that tolerates impunity.
Alarmingly, the child has also witnessed the violent act committed by her own father towards his victims.
In the 2016 Systematic Literature Review of the Drivers of Violence Affecting Children, experiencing or being exposed to violence also increases the risk that a child may use or experience violence against partners, peers and family members.

Being a victim of violence itself, the child must be accorded with appropriate intervention and rehabilitation to help her process the aftermath of the traumatic incident and reflect on her actions.

Bashing, sharing her pictures, and inciting further judgment through social media will not help the child learn the consequences of her actions. Children have the right to be protected from all kinds of violence, including cyberviolence. Instigating condemnation and negative reaction towards her will make us no different from the real perpetrator who should be held accountable.
CWC continuously reiterates that children are not little adults, and we should recognize and address the underlying factors that drive children to behave in such way. Most importantly, CWC continuously calls for positive parenting, which teaches courtesy, non-violence, empathy, self-respect, HUMAN RIGHTS, AND RESPECT FOR OTHERS.

Being the primary duty bearer of children's rights, the State has the responsibility to care for and protect them against improper influences, hazards, and other conditions or circumstances prejudicial to their development.
We must focus on the real issue at hand – to MAKE THE POLICE OFFICER LIABLE INSTEAD OF CRUCIFYING THE CHILD FOR HER BEHAVIOR.
