Payao National High School started as a barangay school on June 19, 1977 with one teacher, 1 classroom with 40 students most are over age. This was opened in accordance with Republic Act # 2706 as amended by Commonwealth Act #180 thru the collaborative efforts of the Late Barangay Captain Leopoldo Solito of Calaboa Este, Mrs. Vivencio Araneta, District Supervisor of Sta. Barbara and Mayor E

rnesto Sumagaysay of the Municipality of Sta. Solito, now Mrs. Sudario is the first and pioneer teacher. Payao National High School is situated at Magancina, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo, is eigth (8) kilometres away from the Poblacion. Looking at the map of the Municipality of Sta. Barbara you will notice that there is no such barangay as Payao. Because Payao is a creek encircling the barangays of Magancina, Tuburan, Conaynay, Calaboa Este and Canipayan. That is why talking of Payao you will be asked “Where is Payao?” These barangays serve as the school’s feeders of students. By virtue of the Executive Order #189 dated July 1, 1987, the barangay School has changed its status into National High School. It was fully confirmed as nationally funded last April of 1993. On July 9, 1989 the Municipal Government of Sta. Barbara had donated 6,000 square meters for the school site. On the 4th of July 1994, the Deed of Donation of Usufruct was signed by Mayor Jone P. Sabidong and Dr. Consolacion N. Quinon transferring the ownership of the lot from the Municipal Government to the Department of Education, Culture and Sports. There are 3 buildings with three classrooms each, and such cater the needs of the needs of the students and teachers. All these were constructed from 1993-2001. Four classrooms are used for academics. An Office, Home Economics, Laboratory, Library, MAPEH, Computer rooms are also provided. The students planted coconut and mahogany trees along the school perimeter fence. Landscaping was done and full utilization of school facilities is implemented. Through the years Payao National High School is striving for EXCELLENCE.

📢 HINAY | Learning Continuity in Emergencies

Classes may be suspended today, August 11, 2026, as per LGU directive, but learning can still continue—just at a gentler pace.

Through HINAY, our learners are given the flexibility to continue learning safely from home. No rushing, no unnecessary pressure. They may work on the activities provided by their teachers whenever conditions at home allow. What matters most today is that everyone stays safe while keeping connected with learning.

We also understand that every household has a different situation during emergencies. Some may have limited internet access, power interruptions, or other concerns to attend to. HINAY means exactly that—hinay-hinay lang. Learning continues, but with understanding, flexibility, and care.

To our learners and families, please prioritize your safety and well-being. Keep in touch with your teachers when possible, and accomplish your learning tasks at a pace that works for you.

Happy Birthday to Mrs. Ruby D. Blando, School Principal I, and Mrs. Roqueta S. Umadhay, Head Teacher I! Having two people we look up to celebrate on the very same day makes August 11 twice as meaningful for our Payao NHS family.

What a proud moment for Payao National High School!

Our athletes stepped onto the court, track, and playing field carrying not only the name of our school, but also the hard work, discipline, and determination they built through countless practices. And they gave us plenty of reasons to celebrate!

From medals in Shot Put, Discus Throw, Athletics, and Chess, to impressive finishes in Basketball 5x5 Girls and Boys, and the strong performances of our Volleyball Girls and Boys, every achievement tells a story of effort and teamwork.

A special cheer goes to our Volleyball Boys — MUNICIPAL CHAMPIONS! 🏆 Their journey continues as they take the Road to CDSA! We’ll be cheering for you all the way!

To our athletes, congratulations! Whether you brought home a medal, a trophy, or simply the experience of representing Payao NHS with pride, you have already made your school proud.

Knowledge empowers, awareness protects, and responsible choices shape a brighter future.

Today, Payao National High School successfully conducted the SAFE Youth: Strengthening Awareness for Health, Safety, and Legal Responsibility Symposium, equipping our learners with essential knowledge on health, safety, and legal responsibility through meaningful discussions and interactive open forums.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our distinguished resource speakers for generously sharing their expertise:

🔴 Session 1: HIV Awareness and Prevention
Dr. Juan Ismael G. Sumagaysay, MD, FPCP

Dr. Sumagaysay enlightened our learners on HIV prevention, misconceptions, and the importance of compassion, responsible decision-making, and stigma-free awareness. The session concluded with an engaging open forum, where learners confidently raised questions and gained valuable insights.

🟢 Session 2: Dengue Awareness and Prevention
Ms. Arianne Tracey Holipas
Nurse I / Provincial Dengue Program Coordinator
Through an informative discussion, Ms. Holipas emphasized dengue prevention, early detection of symptoms, and the vital role of community participation in maintaining a mosquito-free environment. An open forum followed, allowing learners to clarify concerns and deepen their understanding of dengue prevention.

🔵 Session 3: Common Offenses Committed by School-Aged Children and Their Liabilities

PSSg Abono educated our students about laws affecting minors, the legal consequences of common offenses, cyber responsibility, and the importance of making wise and lawful decisions. During the open forum, learners actively participated by asking relevant questions about their rights, responsibilities, and legal accountability.

May the knowledge gained today inspire every learner to become health-conscious, law-abiding, responsible, and empowered members of the community.

Sa pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wika 2026, buong pagmamalaking nakikiisa ang Payao National High School sa pagtataguyod ng ating pambansang wika bilang daluyan ng kaalaman, kultura, at makabagong teknolohiya.

Sa temang “Wikang Filipino at AI: Kasangkapan sa Pananaliksik at Tulay sa Yaman ng Impormasyon,” ating ipinapakita na ang Wikang Filipino ay patuloy na umuunlad at nagsisilbing mahalagang tulay sa pananaliksik, inobasyon, at responsableng paggamit ng Artificial Intelligence.

Kasabay nito, ating ginugunita ang dalawang makasaysayang pagdiriwang ngayong Agosto:
🕊️ Agosto 21 – Araw ni Ninoy Aquino (Ninoy Aquino Day)
⭐ Agosto 31 – Araw ng mga Bayani (National Heroes' Day)

Nawa’y maging inspirasyon ang kanilang mga sakripisyo upang higit nating mahalin ang ating bansa, kasaysayan, at sariling wika.

Inaanyayahan ang buong komunidad ng Payao National High School na makiisa sa mga inihandang gawain at ipagdiwang ang ating mayamang kultura, kasaysayan, at wikang nagbubuklod sa ating lahat.
