"๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ฌ, ๐๐จ๐จ๐ง๐ฌ, ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐"
- The significant story behind Aquino Day
Today, August 21, marks another year of remembering the bravery and courage of one of the most critical opposition leaders of the Marcos Sr. era, and his name is
He was known as the youngest person to be elected to the Senate of the Philippines.
Furthermore, his rise to politics grew as he was a popular critic that opposed Marcos Sr.'s ideologies and plans, such as transitioning The Philippines into a Garrison State, and the infamous 1967 elections that Aquino denounced, coining the quote:
"Guns, goons, and gold," that implies that the elections were unjustly manipulated using violence and bribes.
On September 21, 1972, Aquino was arrested and imprisoned, and later sentenced to death due to biased and fabricated trials because Aquino opposed Marcos Sr.
He was later allowed to fly to Boston, Massachusetts for health concerns., however, this did not stop him from condemning with Marcos' ideology.
He bravely returned to The Philippines after years of self-imposed exile realizing that the country will be imbalanced due to the Martial Law Protests having no significant leading figure.
Consequently after landing, on August 21, 1983, just after getting off of the plane, Aquino Jr. was shot in the head by only one gunman, leading to his death. Thus the Ninoy Aquino International Airport was named after him to commemorate where he was assassinated.
Today, we celebrate the person that symbolizes the will of Filipinos seeking for peace and equality. He led to seek change within The Philippines from Marcos' military regime. In his memory, we, Filipinos are called to fight for justice and for what is morally just.
