Did you know that Hangul, the Korean alphabet, is one of the very few writing systems in the world INVENTED BY A SINGLE PERSON AND USED BY A WHOLE NATION?

While most writing systems evolved gradually over centuries, Hangul was scientifically designed in the 1440s by King Sejong the Great with one revolutionary goal: TO MAKE LITERACY ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE!!!

At a time when Korea relied on complex Chinese characters—accessible mainly to the elite—Hangul offered a logical, easy-to-learn system that allowed ordinary people to read, write, and express themselves.

🧠 What makes Hangul truly unique is its scientific structure:
🔹 Consonant shapes are based on the shape and position of the mouth, tongue, and throat when producing sounds:
➡ ㄱ represents the tongue blocking the throat
➡ ㄴ reflects the bent tongue with it's tip touching the roof of the mouth
➡ ㅁ shows the shape of the lips
➡ ㅅ resembles the shape of the teeth
➡ ㅇ represents the open throat

🔹 Vowels are built from three philosophical and scientific elements:

에 VS 에서
In Korean, 에 and 에서 are both location particles, but they’re used in different situations.
1️⃣ 에 is used when:
✅ Something exists at a place
✅ You go to or arrive at a place
✅ An event is scheduled at a place
✅ There is no active action happening there
*에 — destination / location where something exists or happens (static)
**Common meanings: to / at / destination or fixed point
***Examples:
→ 학교에 가요. = I go to school.
→ 집에 있어요. = I’m at home.
→ 책이 책상에 있어요. = The book is on the desk.
🧠 Think of 에 as “point” or “target”.

2️⃣ 에서 is used when:
✅ An action happens at a place
✅ Someone does something at that location
✅ It can also mean “from” (starting point)
*에서 (에서) — place where an action happens (dynamic)
**Common meanings: at / in / from
***Examples:
→ 학교에서 공부해요. = I study at school.
→ 집에서 밥을 먹어요. = I eat at home.
→ 도서관에서 책을 읽어요. = I read books in the library.
→ 한국에서 왔어요. = I came from Korea.
🧠 Think of 에서 as “action place”.

WISDOM WEDNESDAY 📖🦉

추위를 타다 is a fixed Korean expression that goes beyond simply “feeling cold.” It describes a person’s inherent sensitivity to cold, often linked to body constitution, health, age, or condition.

***Cold affects this person easily or strongly, even when others may feel fine.

It implies:
✅A personal trait or tendency
✅ Not just the current temperature, but how the body reacts to cold

So it’s closer to:
✅ “to be cold-sensitive”
✅ “to get cold easily”
✅ “to be vulnerable to cold”

***Why the verb 타다 is used?
In Korean, 타다 can mean “to be influenced by” or “to be affected by.”
In 추위를 타다:
✅ 추위 = cold (as a force or condition)
✅ 타다 = to be susceptible to / to be affected by

💡 So conceptually:
Cold “rides” or “takes hold” of the person
➡This metaphorical use of 타다 appears in many trait-describing expressions.
