A Collaborative Extension Model for Community Health: CNAHS Second-Year Circumcision Initiative with the Office of Councilor Diaz.

A community-based health outreach initiative was jointly implemented by the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences (CNAHS) of Dalubhasaan ng Lungsod ng San Pablo (DLSP) and the Office of City Councilor ๐™ƒ๐™ค๐™ฃ. ๐™Ž๐™๐™ฎ๐™ง๐™– ๐˜ผ๐™ก๐™ฎ๐™จ๐™– โ€œ๐˜ฝ๐™–๐™ง๐™—๐™ž๐™šโ€ ๐˜ฟ๐™ž๐™–๐™ฏ, providing free circumcision services to nearly 200 young boys in San Pablo City.

Now in its second year as an institutional extension program of CNAHS, the initiative marks its first formal collaboration with the Office of Hon. Diaz. The activity was initially conceptualized by Hon. Diaz as a localized intervention intended to serve approximately 30 young boys from Barangay Del Remedio. Through strategic collaboration with CNAHS and in response to increasing community demand, the program was expanded to accommodate beneficiaries from multiple barangays.

The outreach was conducted at Del Remedio Elementary School, with the support of Principal Dr. Jason Ricaforte, who facilitated the use of the school as the program venue in line with its commitment to community engagement.

The partnership was operationalized through a complementary arrangement between the two institutions. DLSP-CNAHS provided the necessary manpower and medical services through the active involvement of its faculty members, clinical instructors, and student trainees under the leadership of๐˜ฟ๐™š๐™–๐™ฃ ๐˜พ๐™š๐™จ๐™–๐™ง ๐™ƒ๐™š๐™ง๐™ฃ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™๐™š๐™ฏ, ๐™…๐™ง. On the other hand, the Office of Hon. Diaz ensured the provision of logistical requirements, including medical supplies, food for beneficiaries and volunteers, and additional operational support, as well as coordination with recipient communities.

Medical procedures were performed under the supervision of qualified healthcare professionals, including City Health Officer ๐˜ฟ๐™ง. ๐™ค๐™จ๐™š, ensuring compliance with established clinical standards and patient safety protocols.

Consistent with a holistic healthcare framework, all participants underwent pre-operative screening and assessment, followed by post-operative monitoring and the provision of health education to parents and guardians to ensure appropriate aftercare and recovery.

๐˜ฟ๐™ง. ๐™ˆ๐™–๐™ง๐™˜ ๐™‡๐™š๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ง ๐™Œ๐™ช๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™ฉ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™–, Vice President for Research and Extension, emphasized that the initiative reinforces the extension mandate of the institution by integrating service delivery with experiential learning opportunities for students within real-world community settings.

Moreover, the activity reflects the institutional alignment with the โ€œTrabaho, Edukasyon at Kalusugan (TEK)โ€ development framework advanced under the leadership of ๐™ƒ๐™ค๐™ฃ. ๐™ˆ๐™–๐™ฎ๐™ค๐™ง ๐˜ผ๐™ง๐™˜๐™–๐™™๐™ž๐™ค โ€œ๐™‰๐™–๐™Ÿ๐™ž๐™šโ€ ๐™‚๐™–๐™ฅ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™œ๐™–๐™™๐™–, Jr., Chairperson of the DLSP Board of Trustees, and College President Dr. Preciosa Villacruel. This alignment underscores DLSPโ€™s commitment to harmonizing academic instruction, community service, and public health initiatives.

As it enters its second year of implementation, the CNAHS circumcision program continues to evolve as a sustainable extension undertaking, demonstrating the effectiveness of structured collaboration between academic institutions and local government stakeholders in expanding access to essential healthcare services while promoting community-centered development.
