Words have the capacity to be very influential; playing an important part in conveying ideas and raising awareness about different social issues, especially at present. As such, many LGBTQIA+ individuals have made a lot of significant statements doing so. 💡💬

Let us remind you how important it is to never “out” someone without their permission.

When someone is outing, they disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity as an LGBTQIA+ person. Outing creates issues of privacy and choice. Some people are not comfortable sharing their sexual identity for similar reasons. Outing someone about their sexuality must always be a personal decision. Sharing someone’s sexual identity without their permission can lead to someone experiencing violence and discrimination, and can place them in dangerous situations.

Let us help create many safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ folks to feel welcome and thrive. 🏳️‍🌈

Why is referring to someone with correct pronouns so important? 💭

Correctly using someone’s pronouns is one of the easiest ways to show respect for their gender identity. However, choosing to ignore and making assumptions of their gender pronouns may come off as oppressive and disrespectful. When someone tells you their pronouns, they are asking for you to respect and accept their identity. 🤝💗

As members of the LGBTQIA+ community, transgenders have faced many highs and lows in their everyday lives. But, do you know the numbers behind the challenges that they are confronted with on a daily basis? 📊

Transgender people in the Philippines have always been a subject of oppression, harassment, and discrimination. Fear, hatred, and disgust for transgender people or anyone who does not fit into the male/female gender binary has caused mental problems to its victims. Psychological indicators such as depression and suicidal attempts have been reported among transgender people. 🗣

Laws are being passed to protect the rights of LGBTQIA+ people and Catholic Churches raising their flag, and we are still far from having equal rights we all deserve. Our views and opinions towards LGBTQIA+ people have contributed to the laws being made against them. Imagine the government taking away your rights to be yourself. How would you feel?

We believe that informing people about such things helps in spreading our message of love and equality and is integral in stopping further acts of violence, discrimination, and more towards transgenders and LGBTQIA+'s in general. 🤝✊
