San Nicolas Elementary School (SNES) successfully conducted the First Screening Examination for the Special Science Elementary School (SSES) Program today, marking the initial step in selecting incoming Grade 1 learners for School Year 2026–2027.

Held at the SSC Building, the screening gathered young applicants who aspire to become part of the school’s specialized science program known for nurturing critical thinking, creativity, and early scientific aptitude. The examination serves as a gateway to an enriched curriculum designed to develop learners’ skills in science, mathematics, language, and communication.

The assessment covered key areas including speaking, reading comprehension, writing, and numeracy. These components were designed to gauge each child’s readiness to thrive in a more advanced and focused learning environment.

Parents and guardians accompanied their children during the scheduled 8:00 a.m. examination, ensuring proper guidance and preparation. Applicants were required to bring basic materials such as pad paper and pencil as part of the examination requirements.

Adding significance to the day’s activity, Dr. Milton B. Amayun, one of the benevolent stakeholders of SNES, visited and observed the screening process. San Nicolas Elementary School has officially launched its Summer Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Tutor Program today, signaling a strong commitment to improving learners’ foundational skills in reading, mathematics, and science.

The initiative, implemented in line with DepEd Order No. 10, s. 2026 and Republic Act No. 12028, is part of the Department of Education’s nationwide effort to address learning gaps through focused and structured remediation. The program will run from May 6 to June 2, 2026, following a 20-day intensive cycle designed to support learners who need additional academic reinforcement.

At the core of the program are targeted learners from incoming Grades 2 to 4 who are at the “Emerging” level, as well as those in higher grades who fall under the “Frustration” level in literacy and numeracy. Through carefully planned sessions, tutors will deliver learner-centered instruction that prioritizes understanding, confidence-building, and steady progress over rigid grade-level pacing.

Sessions are scheduled from Monday to Thursday, providing consistent opportunities for guided learning, while Fridays are set aside for home-based activities and progress monitoring. This structure ensures that learners not only receive direct support but also develop independent study habits.

San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte — A significant step toward addressing flooding concerns at San Nicolas Elementary School (SNES) has been made through the support of 𝐇𝐨𝐧. 𝐂𝐞𝐬𝐚𝐫 𝐑. 𝐀𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧, Sangguniang Bayan Member of San Nicolas.

In response to challenges during the rainy season, Hon. Agustin donated four loads of gravel and sand to support the School Parent-Teacher Association (SPTA) Project. The materials are being used for the construction of a box culvert canal—an essential infrastructure aimed at improving drainage and preventing water accumulation within the school premises.

The canal system is currently under construction and is expected to provide a practical, long-term solution by directing rainwater away from critical areas of the school, helping ensure safer pathways and uninterrupted school activities.

School officials and stakeholders expressed their gratitude for the timely assistance, emphasizing that the project reflects strong collaboration between the local government and the school community. The initiative also underscores the impact of responsive leadership in addressing immediate needs within educational institutions.
