𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐈𝐍 𝐇𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘 | Today, we commemorate the 98th birth anniversary of Captain Gregorio S. Oca, a distinguished alumnus of the Philippine Nautical School (PNS)—later renamed the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA)—Class of 1948.

Captain Oca is widely regarded as a pillar of the maritime industry, celebrated for his exemplary leadership and steadfast commitment to advancing the rights and welfare of Filipino seafarers. His name is inseparable from the founding and growth of the Associated Marine Officers and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP), an organization that has long served as a vital champion for the nation’s maritime workforce.

His vision, dedication, and transformative contributions have left a profound and lasting impact on the maritime sector, shaping the trajectory of seafaring in the Philippines and elevating the well-being of countless seafarers across generations.

In honor of his enduring legacy, AMOSUP generously donated the PMMA Knowledge Center, which bears his name and continues to stand as a testament to his life’s work—serving as a source of inspiration for current PMMA midshipmen and future maritime professionals.

Propelling his spirit in this lively place.
Through late-night studies and the weight of the day,
Hopia's sweet magic keeps worries at bay.

With friends gathered 'round, sharing blue and gold, sweat and cheer.
A bond forged in bittersweet, their purpose made clear.
Through salty sea winds and the sun's blazing rays,
Together they conquer, in so many ways.

For success is a journey, not merely a reward; it lies in the striving and the connections formed,

Hopia, slang to mean, All is nothing but only hoping,
