𝐋𝐒𝐒𝐍𝐇𝐒 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬

ILOILO CITY — School leaders and education personnel from across Western Visayas gathered at the Iloilo Convention Center from August 17 to 20, 2026, for the Regional Assembly of Education Leaders (RAEL), the first of its kind in the country.

The four-day assembly featured discussions on emerging issues and priorities in education, including artificial intelligence and the future of work, professional image and personal branding, emotional safety, school discipline and bullying, human relations, financial stewardship, curriculum innovation, and educational leadership.

The event brought together prominent education leaders and experts, including DepEd Region VI Regional Director Cristito A. Eco, CESO III, Secretary of Education Juan Edgardo “Sonny” M. Angara, and other distinguished speakers from the Department of Education, academe, and the private sector.

Representing Leonora S. Salapantan National High School (LSSNHS) were Principal III Dr. Mary Grave L. Castillo and ASP Designates Marjorie H. Goroy, Raymund Bonnin S. Suganob, and Rowell D. Salulog.

School heads from the Schools District of San Miguel also participated in the assembly, led by Public Schools District Supervisor Leonil T. Salvilla.

RAEL is spearheaded by the National Association of Public Secondary Schools Principals of the Philippines (NAPSSPHIL), PESPA Region VI, and DepEd Region VI, marking a significant milestone in strengthening leadership, collaboration, and innovation among education leaders in the country.

Mayor Bonifacio Jr Salapantan ordered the suspension of classes today, August 19, 2026 in all levels within the Municipality of San Miguel. Classes shall shift to ADM.

The Leonora S. Salapantan National High School (LSSNHS) Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) officially launched the Flip and Sip Kick-Off on August 17, 2026, at the Home Economics Building. The activity marked the beginning of the Sip and Flip Clean Beverage Carton Collection Challenge, an environmental initiative that promotes proper waste segregation, recycling, and responsible waste management.

The activity was attended by the Council Presidents, Club Presidents, and LSSNHS Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) officers, who will help implement the collection challenge in their respective classrooms and organizations.

A major highlight of the event was the turnover of garbage bins, led by Mr. Niño Simoy, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) Designate, and Mr. Aeron Paul G. Gabinete, Territory Activation Manager of Tetra Pak.

Mr. Gabinete also delivered a message emphasizing the importance of environmental awareness and recycling. He highlighted that LSSNHS is the first school they have coordinated with for the initiative, making the activity a significant step in strengthening the school’s commitment to environmental advocacy.

Following the messages, Lance Casipe, YES-O President, and Mrs. Julie Saturnino, YES-O Adviser, oriented the Council Presidents, Club Presidents, and SSLG officers on the implementation of the Sip and Flip Challenge, including the collection process, assigned responsibilities, consolidation procedures, and important dates.

The program opened with attendance, prayer, the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, and the San Miguel Hymn. The opening program was led by Mr. Raymund Bonnin Suganob, Master Teacher I of the Science Department. Nash Ivan Eraste, YES-O Grade 11 Representative, introduced the speaker, while Mr. Rowell Salulog, MT I/ OIC, delivered the closing message. The program was hosted by Lance Casipe and Princess Juntong, YES-O President and Treasurer respectively.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Students – Prepare and properly clean beverage cartons.

Class Presidents – Collect beverage cartons from students within their respective classrooms.

Council Presidents – Gather, consolidate, and organize all collected beverage cartons from classrooms and organizations.

CONSOLIDATION

* March 15, 2027 – Start of final consolidation and preparation for official counting.
* March 18, 2027, 12:00–12:45 PM – Consolidation at the STE Building.
* March 19, 2027, 2:30–3:00 PM – Turnover to MENRO.

Following the consolidation, the official counting will determine the Top 3 participants or groups with the highest number of properly collected beverage cartons.

Through the Flip and Sip Initiative, LSSNHS YES-O aims to encourage students to practice proper waste segregation, strengthen recycling efforts, and foster collective responsibility toward a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable school environment.

Leonora S. Salapantan National High School (LSSNHS) and San Miguel Municipal Police Station (SMMPS) strengthened their commitment to learner safety and well-being through an anti-bullying and safety awareness discussion held after the flag ceremony on August 17, 2026.

The activity was led by PMAJ Bryan C Alejo, Chief of Police of the San Miguel Municipal Police Station, who addressed the learners regarding bullying, school safety, and the possible consequences of actions that may threaten the school community. The discussion came following the bomb threat reported at the school on August 4, 2026.

PMAJ Alejo introduced the four types of bullying and explained how such behaviors can negatively affect learners and disrupt a safe and peaceful learning environment. He emphasized that bullying should not be treated as a simple joke or ordinary disagreement, as it can have serious effects on a learner’s emotional well-being and sense of security.

During his address, PMAJ Alejo also informed the school community that the individual allegedly responsible for sending the bomb threat had been identified. He firmly warned learners against making threats, engaging in bullying, or committing other acts that violate school rules and regulations.

The police chief further emphasized that maintaining safety in school is a shared responsibility. Learners were encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, threats, or incidents of bullying to trusted teachers, school officials, or proper authorities.

The discussion served as a timely reminder that words and actions can carry serious consequences. As LSSNHS continues to promote a safe and supportive learning environment, learners are encouraged to think before they act, respect one another, and speak up when they witness behavior that may put others at risk.

Through initiatives such as this, LSSNHS and the local police force continue to reinforce the importance of cooperation, responsibility, and respect in building a safer and more peaceful school community.
