๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ทโœจ

๐Ÿ•น๏ธ KASALUKUYANG PATAKARAN
๐Ÿ•น๏ธ IPINAPANUKALANG BAGONG PATARAN

Good news could be coming for foreign workers in Korea ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜

The South Korean government is currently reviewing a proposal to improve the E-9 (EPS) visa system. One of the biggest changes being discussed is allowing workers to stay and work in Korea continuously for up to 9 years and 8 months without the need to leave the country in between contracts.

๐Ÿ•น๏ธ CURRENT POLICY
Right now, E-9 workers can stay for 4 years and 10 months per contract, and can renew once. However, there is a catch โ€” workers are required to leave Korea for a period of time (usually at least 1 month) before coming back for the next term. This breaks continuity and creates uncertainty for many workers.

๐Ÿ•น๏ธ PROPOSE NEW RULES
The government is considering removing this mandatory exit rule, allowing workers to:

โœ” Stay continuously for nearly 10 years
โœ” Avoid the stress and cost of leaving and re-entering Korea
โœ” Maintain stable employment without interruption

Korea is facing labor shortages in industries like manufacturing, agriculture, and construction. By allowing longer continuous stays, companies can retain experienced foreign workers, and workers can have more stability in their jobs and lives.

๐Ÿ“Œ IMPORTANT REMINDER
โš  This is NOT final yet
โš  Still under review and requires legal changes
โš  Details (who qualifies, when it starts) are not confirmed

For now, we wait and hope this becomes official ๐Ÿ™

This could be a big step forward for many foreign workers building their lives here in Korea.

Partikular itong para sa mga estudyanteng naka-enroll sa โ€œSura Academy,โ€ isang programang pinangangasiwaan ng Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs na nagtuturo ng authentic Korean cuisine o hansik.

South Korea lowers visa hurdles for foreign workers to stave off shrinking workforce

The Ministry of Justice said Monday that it will ease several immigration and residency requirements, part of a concerted effort to shore up a shrinking workforce and project the nationโ€™s cultural influence further abroad.

A centerpiece of the plan is the relaxation of experience and language requirements for the D-4 Korean culinary trainee visa. This adjustment is specifically tailored for students enrolled in "Sura Academy" programs, an initiative overseen by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to train international students in authentic Korean cuisine called "hansik." By lowering the barriers for aspiring chefs, officials hope to accelerate the globalization of Korean cuisine, transforming the countryโ€™s gastronomic tradition into a more accessible export.

The measures, approved during the third session of the Visa and Residency Policy Council, signal a strategic shift by the government to attract specific categories of foreign talent, ranging from remote-working "digital nomads" to specialized industrial artisans.

The council, chaired by Justice Minister Jung Sung-ho, reviewed a slate of 20 proposals submitted by six central ministries and two regional governments. Of those, eight were approved, reflecting a calibrated attempt to address the countryโ€™s deepening demographic and industrial shifts.

The reforms also target specific gaps in the nationโ€™s economy, particularly the manufacturing sector. To combat a persistent labor shortage in the foundry industry, the ministry will launch a pilot program for the E-7-3 skilled worker visa. The program will include mold-making as a newly eligible occupation, with an initial annual quota of 150 workers.

Further south, Jeju Island is set to become a laboratory for the "workcation" trend. Foreigners entering the island visa-free will now be eligible to extend their stay from 30 to 90 days, provided they receive a recommendation from the Jeju governor. The move is intended to stimulate the local economy by catering to the growing global class of remote workers.

The ministry further streamlined paths for high-skilled professionals and students, waiving a one-year experience requirement for the E-7-1 professional visa for foreign science and engineering graduates who complete specialized training programs abroad. Additionally, it expanded D-4 eligibility for international schools in the Jeju English Education City and created a new gap-year pathway for high school graduates from OECD countries to explore university enrollment in Korea.

"We will listen closely to voices from the field, so that immigration and visa policy can respond to changes in industrial and demographic structure," the justice minister said.

Revolutionary Changes Planned for Koreaโ€™s E-9 Visa System: Skilled Workers May Soon Be Allowed to Bring Their Families ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท

There is good news for foreign workers from all EPS partner countries who are currently working in South Korea or planning to come in the future. The Korean government is preparing major reforms to the long-standing E-9 visa system. Taking into account labor market demands and workersโ€™ rights, the government plans to introduce a categorized visa system with additional benefits.

Key proposed changes include:

โœ… New Visa Classification:
The E-9 visa may be divided into subcategories such as E-9-1, E-9-2, and E-9-3 based on skills and qualifications. Workers who demonstrate higher skills and obtain relevant certifications will have opportunities to move to higher categories.

โœ… Family Reunification Opportunity:
One of the most significant proposed changes is the possibility for skilled workers in higher categories to bring their families to South Korea. This could help reduce long-term separation from loved ones.

โœ… Greater Flexibility in Job Changes:
The current strict job transfer rules may be eased, allowing skilled workers more flexibility to change workplaces.

๐Ÿ’ก Reason Behind the Reform:

South Korea currently employs hundreds of thousands of E-9 workers from multiple EPS partner countries. However, industries often lose experienced workers when they are required to return home after their visa expires. In addition, long-term family separation has raised concerns from a human rights perspective.

๐Ÿš€ Impact on EPS Workers:

If implemented, this reform will benefit workers from all EPS countries working in sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, and construction. It will provide not only better career opportunities but also the possibility of a more stable and family-oriented life in Korea.
