Good day!

We would like to inform you and your kids that Mind Games School of Chess will continue its weekly sessions on August 5, 2023.

This is to give way to parents and children to fully enjoy the month-long summer vacation, and also for us to work on some changes.

Aside from this, if you have friends or relatives who have children that want to enroll, you can contact us anytime. Also, if you have questions, feel free to send those here. We're happy to respond within the day.

We are delighted to see these children do good in the recently finished monthly chess assessment. It's not what we usually see in the physical scenario every day, but these kinds of quiz type assessments also help these kids strengthen their understanding of the concepts they need even when not in an actual match.

For context: Vladimir Kramnik, former World Chess champion, plays the game against a robotic arm in 2010.

Since we now live in the technological era, where robots and artificial intelligence are emerging and evolving, it won't be surprising to see how these AIs can be tenfold better than what our grandmasters can do in years to come.

On the bright side of this, however, is the benefit of people around the world who want to reach new heights in the game of chess. With capable people and proper use of the chess AI technology, we can definitely achieve more in this renowned game.

Last Saturday's chess session was another takeaway for these chess enjoyers, as they learned things about opposite - colored bishop endings. Additionally, they were able to cement their understanding of the concept of "The Fortress" in these kinds of endgames.

For context, a fortress is a defensive technique in chess, which uses a specific piece position setup that can't be breached by the opponent.

Next meeting will be another assessment to measure how much learning has happened for the past sessions. See you!

One more week to go before these students complete their third month of learning in Mind Games School of Chess, and it's really elating to see how most of them are improving their gameplay, and appreciating the game more.

For the past months, they consistently participated in the lessons and games, where takeaways were always ensured. They learned chess essentials like notations, openings, checkmates, and even piece-specific endgame strategies.

As we move closer to the later parts of the tutorials, we'll expect to see each meetings focusing more on the analytical parts of the game.

We look forward to more days and lessons spent with you, young learners! We'll see you again this coming Saturday!

Late post

“Champions keep playing until they get it right.” – Billy Jean King

The previous chess learning sessions were mostly about endgames, as most young chess enthusiasts lack knowledge in this part of the game, and the foci were mainly rook endgames and analysis to prevent premature moves.

It was difficult at first, but these kids are finally getting the hang of it. Their consistency has played an important part in achieving this improving level of knowledge they have now, compared to when they first entered the chess sessions. It's similar to how every other sport enthusiast in their field becomes better at what they do.

We hope to see the same faces, together with new ones, in the next weekends to come! So, keep motivated and learn more about your favorite chess game!

The quote mentioned above is pretty straightforward. Becoming something isn't something one can just grab instantly. It takes a lot to become it.

So, young aspiring chess players, have the heart to continue playing and loving chess. Who knows where the love for the game will bring you soon?

Also, big appreciation to San Mariano Chess Club, parents, participants, benefactors, and everyone else who made this event happen. It was really a big step towards creating a chess community in San Mariano, Isabela. Looking forward to more engagements with aspiring players and organizers soon!

Yes, chess is often seen as a clash between two players, but most of the time during the match, you are struggling against yourself internally. It's like having certainty and doubts all at the same time, making you overthink your moves and capabilities on the chessboard. On the other hand, it's not healthy to develop rivalry against every player you play with. Remember, you play to overcome yourself and conquer the board, not the person behind the pieces.

Also, there will be an upcoming Chess Tournament this coming Saturday, May 20 at Zone 03, San Mariano, Isabela. We encourage the parents and their children to take part in this opportunity to further expose their young players and develop their appreciation in the game of Chess.
