This year, PKK will offer an online leadership camp for Grade 5 students from the public elementary schools of San Juan. We need the help of incoming G10-12 Xaverian Kuyas⛺️not only to prepare fun, engaging, and meaningful leadership sessions, but to also to interact and teach the PKK students. 👩‍🏫🧑‍🏫👨‍🏫

Mr. Greg Chua, JHS Math Teacher and PKK Veteran (2007-2011) shares, “After some (PKK) students told me how I made a difference in their lives, I knew I wanted to become a teacher and do just that for a living.” We highly encourage you to apply for PKK 2022, as it could very well be a life-changing journey. ❤️

As we brave the turbulent waves of the country’s socio-political climate, our country needs leaders to keep us on the right path. After years of sailing the same seas, we are taking a different route with the theme: "Seeing Leadership Through A New Lens!”

We are calling on incoming Grade 10-12 Xavier students to help us cultivate relevant leadership skills in the youth to allow them to thrive in today’s society! Interacting with Grade 5 San Juan public school students and your fellow Xaverians will surely make your summer even more fun and meaningful. After interviewing our new applicants and much deliberation, we have finalized the list of accepted Kuyas for this year’s Para Kay Kiko program!

On September 18, 2020, the Xavier School Grade School Community will be having the MASS FOR CREATION. It is a celebration of the gifts of God to humanity through our mother Earth and an invitation to always commit ourselves to partake in the work of caring for it and everything that it holds. The Holy Mass will be live-streamed on the Xavier School YouTube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/XavierKuangchi) at 2:00 PM.

As one community, let us constantly respond to the call to be stewards of our common home - our wellspring of sustenance and channel of God’s outpouring of blessings to all of us.

St. John Berchmans, pray for us.

Let us get to know one of our young Jesuit Saints, St. John Berchmans.

He exemplifies that holiness and a sense of humor can go together. One day, while he was playing billiards, someone asked him what he would do if he were to find out that he only has a few minutes to live. He answered: “I would go on playing billiards.”

He also exemplifies humility. A proof of this are his words before he died as he said: “I resolved always to prefer labors to comforts, contempt to honors, and in particular, if on one side a kingdom were offered and the washing of dishes on the other, I would refuse the kingdom and accept the dishwashing so as to be truly like Christ, who humbled Himself.”

He died at the age of 22 while still a seminarian. Eventually, he became the patron saint of altar servers.

May we all aspire to be like St. John Berchmans. Humble and holy with a sense of humor.

Ignatian Spirituality reminds us that God can be found in all things - in the simple and the complicated, in the small and in the grand. However, this exercise becomes difficult as we get older because we think we know so much more and nothing can surprise us or we have become jaded in life.

Why don’t we look at the world with the eyes of a child every so often and allow ourselves to be filled with wonder and amazement again, to find joy in the simplest things, and just to be? May this experience lead us to find God who is waiting to be found.

Let this poem be our prayer today as we start our . The poem was written by a Jesuit paleontologist and philosopher, Fr. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, SJ.

We ask for the grace of nourishment and hope as we read the poem slowly and in the trust that God is at work, in us, and in our broken world.

IT’S ⏰ FOR SOME FLASHBACK SATURDAY🎉 🎉

Yesterday last year, PKK Summer 2019 officially came to a close with the annual PKK graduation ceremony. It served as an emotional and fitting conclusion to all the lessons and memories made over the summer; further enhanced by the recollections held during the two days prior.

Among those memories, one of which stands out is the field trip to The Mind Museum. Here, students and kuyas were able to bond over the discovery of various scientific knowledge through numerous games, activities, and exhibits.

Unlike previous years, the summer of 2020 may have had a shaky start, but that should not stop us from reliving the friendships and memories we have made before. From all of us at PKK, we again thank all those who contributed to making PKK Summer 2019 a success, and we hope for more PKK summer programs to come. But for now, stay safe everyone!
