🌳 "Trees and Life: Growing a Greener Future" 🌱

National Arbor Week reminds us that trees are essential to life. They provide clean air, shade, food, shelter, and protection for people, animals, and the environment. From September 1–7, 2026, let us celebrate by planting and caring for trees in our homes, schools, and communities.

Every seedling we plant is a step toward a healthier and more sustainable future. As students, we can help by joining tree-planting activities, avoiding littering, conserving water, and encouraging others to protect nature. Trees may start small, but with care, they grow strong and make a lasting difference. Let us work together to keep our surroundings green, clean, and beautiful. Through unity and responsibility, we can create a better world for future generations. This National Arbor Week, let us remember that protecting trees means protecting life itself. "Plant a tree today, nurture it with care, and watch hope grow for tomorrow." 🌍

African Traditional Medicine remains an important part of healthcare and cultural heritage across the continent. It is estimated that nearly "80% of Africa’s population" relies on traditional medicine for at least some of their healthcare needs, especially in communities where modern medical services may be limited. For thousands of years, people have used medicinal plants, roots, bark, seeds, and minerals to support well-being. Traditional healers often learn through family teachings, observation, and apprenticeships, passing knowledge from one generation to the next.

A fascinating fact is that some modern medicines were developed by studying natural substances used in traditional healing. Africa is also home to an incredible diversity of plants, many of which are still being researched.

On Traditional Medicine Day, we honor indigenous knowledge while encouraging safe use and consultation with qualified healthcare professionals. 🌿🌍

World African Wild Dog Day is a day to celebrate one of Africa’s most endangered and misunderstood predators.

The African wild dog is not a wolf, not a hyena, and not a stray dog. It is a unique species, built for teamwork and survival.

Why They Matter
Nature’s Marathon Runners – They can chase prey at speeds up to 44 mph for miles, using stamina over stealth.
Pack Power – Every member of the pack helps raise the pups, feed the sick, and hunt together. Their success rate is over 80\% —higher than lions or leopards.
Painted Coats – No two wild dogs have the same pattern of black, white, and tan patches. Each one is like a fingerprint.

The Hard Truth
FactNumberRemaining adults in the wild~6,600Packs left in all of Africa~700Average pack size6–20 dogs

How You Can Help
Learn and share – Most people don’t know they exist. Tell a friend.
Support conservation – Organizations like the Painted Wolf Foundation work to protect their habitats.
Respect the wild – Never feed or approach them. They are not pets; they are wild hunters.

On this day, remember: The African wild dog is not a villain of the savanna. It is a master of cooperation, a symbol of loyalty, and a survivor against all odds. Let’s make sure they keep running.

Water for Life
"Water is the driving force of all nature." — Leonardo da Vinci

Welcome to World Water Week!

Today, we begin our journey to understand the most essential resource on Earth. Water covers over 70% of our planet, but only a tiny fraction—about 2.5%—is fresh water. And of that, less than 1% is easily accessible for us to drink.

Why does water matter?

For our bodies: You are about 60% water. Every cell, tissue, and organ needs it to function.
For our food: It takes about 1,500 liters of water to produce just 1 kilogram of wheat.
For our planet: Rivers, lakes, and oceans are home to millions of species.

Today's challenge: Think about every drop. When you turn on the tap, where does that water come from? Where does it go after you use it?

Let's make this week count. Together, we can learn, share, and act for a water-secure future.

GOOD LUCK TO OUR CAMPUS JOURNALIST! ✨🍀
