The Child Growth Center traces its beginnings first as an extension program of Central Philippine University – Katin-aran Center an NGO based in Iloilo City. Corvera then head of the Social Work Department of CPU that brought this program to Antique. It was decided after the survey conducted by the staff of Katin-aran Center that there is a pressing need to help and support these communities based on the program of CPU Katin-aran Center. It is an “Integrated Development Program” which aims primarily to promote social activity in the community using holistic approach. And because of the need in the community specifically catering children in their early age by reshaping or nurturing their spiritual, emotional, cultural and academic aspect of their lives, the Child Growth Center then served. On the other hand, the Center did not only focus its activity on children but including their parents who were also given educational activities such as trainings and workshops. And with the positive outcome of the program in the community, it was a success. For the first two years of its operation, the CGC manage the early childhood program satisfactorily through the support of the parents and community. Since it is only a two-year program of the CPU Katin-aran Center, it was turned-over to the local church (San Pedro Evangelical Church) the responsibility to manage or operate. It was not too long that the program existed since there is no person responsible to handle the said program, the church officers find it difficult to manage, so the church decided to close the program. It was the initiative of the community especially the parents to continue the early childhood program because they were the one’s benefited considering the minimal charge of monthly fees, the quality of education, and the spiritual nurturing of their children
are concerned. In September 1998 the ACGCI was registered to the Securities and Exchange Commission and until now that this institution exists. ACGCI is also affiliated with the Family Wellness Center of the College of Theology of Central Philippine University. The goals and visions did not change since then. The objectives and purposes to serve the community are still in place. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE ANTIQUE CHILD GROWTH CENTER INC.
