𝗠𝗴𝗮 𝗚𝘂𝗿𝗼: 𝗜𝗹𝗮𝘄 𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗱-𝗔𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻, 𝗕𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗶 𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻

“Ma’am, nag-aaway po sina—”
“Sir, may nagsusuntukan po—”
“Class, pass your paper!”
“Get one whole sheet of paper.”
“Ma’am, one whole?”

Pamilyar ba? Mga linyang araw-araw nating naririnig sa paaralan. Ngunit kapag sumapit ang “Araw ng mga G**o,” tila nagbabago ang himig ng bawat sulok ng silid-aralan. Ang mga kulay sa pader ay parang damdaming hindi kayang itago ng mga mag-aaral—masigla, taos-puso, at puno ng pasasalamat.

Sa bawat paaralan, lihim na gumigising ang sigla ng mga estudyante. Marahang sumasayaw ang mga banderitas sa ihip ng hangin, “mga liham ng pasasalamat ” ang dumarating na tila bulong ng puso, at mga bulaklak ang nagiging sagisag ng pagyabong ng kaalaman.

Sa araw na ito, humihinto muna ang ingay ng leksyon at pagsusulit. Ang entablado’y nagiging saksi sa mga pagtatanghal—awit, tula, sayaw—mga handog na walang halong pag-aalinlangan, lahat ay alay sa mga gurong patuloy na nagliliwanag sa dilim ng kamangmangan.

Hindi man masuklian ng“ kayamanan” ang kanilang pagod, sapat na ang isang ngiti, isang yakap, at isang “salamat po” upang ipadama ang tunay na halaga ng kanilang sakripisyo. Sapagkat sa likod ng bawat “matagumpay na mag-aaral” ay isang gurong nagtiyaga, umunawa, at naniwala.

Sa kanilang mga kamay“ isinilang ang mga pangarap ng kabataan”—at sa “liwanag ng kanilang pagtuturo, patuloy na sisinag ang kinabukasan ng bayan”. Huwag sana nating kalimutan: “ang tunay na bayani” ay hindi laging may espada o medalya. Minsan, hawak nila ay “chalk,“ “lesson plan,“ at “ pusong handang magbigay liwanag sa iba.”
