Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost, which took place fifty days after Jesus rose from the dead. Today’s Gospel recounts Jesus’ first appearance to the Apostles as a group—Thomas being absent—on the evening of the Resurrection. During this appearance, Jesus conferred on them the authority to forgive sins, a power foundational to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This gift anticipates the fuller outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, when the Apostles were empowered to carry out their mission with boldness and divine strength.

Reflect today on the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. Have you experienced the Spirit’s presence in your life? Like the first disciples, have you allowed the Holy Spirit to fill you with power from on high, emboldening you, purifying you, and setting you on fire with zeal to fulfill the mission God has entrusted to you? The Holy Spirit will transform us—if we let Him—setting our feet on the path to eternal glory.

(Ascension Sunday)

The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord commemorates the fortieth day after the Resurrection when Jesus ascended body and soul into Heaven and took His seat at the right hand of His Father.
The Ascension marks the completion of Jesus’ mission on earth and the union of His divine and human natures in glory. Through His life, death, and Resurrection, Jesus perfected human experience with divine love and obedience. By ascending into Heaven, He opened the way for humanity to share in the Beatific Vision and eternal life with God. Christians believe that at the end of time, the faithful will also rise and share fully in this resurrected life. The Feast of the Ascension reminds believers to reflect on this mystery with faith, hope, and prayer.

Today's Gospel: John 14:15-21

Jesus teaches that true love for Him is shown through obedience to His commandments. The passage reminds believers that they are never alone because God sends the Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen them. It shows that faith is not only about words but also about living according to God’s will. Jesus also comforts His disciples by assuring them of His constant presence in their lives. This Gospel encourages Christians to remain faithful, loving, and obedient despite difficulties and challenges. Through this message, believers are reminded that their relationship with God is reflected in the way they live and treat others.
