"Ipagbunyi natin bayang sinilangan
Lahi ng magiting na mamamayan
Mga bayaning nagbuwis ng buhay
Hindi malilimot kailanman, Nakamit na tagumpay
Karangalan mo’y walang kapantay

Today, we remember the courage of those who gave their all for our freedom. Their bravery reminds us that heroism is not only found in battlefields, but also in the simple yet powerful acts of love for country and for others.

National Heroes Day was first proclaimed in 1931 through Act No. 3827, which set the last Sunday of August as a day to honor all Filipino heroes. In 2007, Republic Act No. 9492 changed the observance to every last Monday of August and declared it a regular holiday. This change was meant not only to mark the date but to give Filipinos a special time to pause and reflect—remembering both the celebrated figures of history and the countless unsung heroes whose sacrifices continue to inspire our nation today.

Our heroes may have lived in a different time, but the values they fought for remain just as important today. Freedom, justice, and unity are not just ideals of the past—they are daily reminders for us to guard what they fought for. In moments of doubt, we can choose courage; in times of division, we can choose unity; and in the face of challenges, we can choose hope. These choices, though small, are what carry forward the true spirit of heroism.

National Heroes Day is more than just commemoration of the past; it is a call to action for the present and the future. Each of us holds the responsibility to protect the freedom we inherited and to contribute to building a country that our heroes dreamed of. By living with courage and unity, we honor them best.
