The Pride of Independence: Unfolding the Past to Light the Future
The 12th day of June is not just an ordinary red marked day in the calendar or another chapter of a textbook; it is a grand canvas painted with blood, sweat, and tears of the ancestors who refused to lived in the shadows of Spanish invaders.
For over three centuries, the Philippines lay under the heavy blanket of Spanish regime. The archipelago was a captive bird; wings clipped by colonial oppression. But the desire for liberty was a dormant volcano, quietly bubbling beneath the surface, until it could no longer be contained.
Heroes like Dr. Jose Rizal used his pen as sharp sword, cutting through the darkness of ignorance and exposing injustice rules. Meanwhile, Andres Bonifacio and the Katipuneros became the soaring Philippine Eagle of the revolution urging the Filipinos for action.
The awakening arrived on June 12, 1898. In Kawit, Cavite, General Emilio Aguinaldo stood before the sea of cheering spirits. The blue, red, and white flag unrolled for the very first time in history; just like a butterfly breaking free from its cocoon. The national anthem was played and sung with pride, a sweet breath fresh air for a newly born country. As if the chains of misery finally shattered.
Today's battle grounds changed as progress dawned but the pulse of June 12 still thumps loudly and converts the celebration of freedom into amazing tapestry of remembrance and present- day pride. Freedom is not something young people consider to be part of the past; instead, they recognize that this is something that demands to be nurtured continually. With their dedication to promoting truth, uplifting their community, preserving their culture, they guarantee that the freedom won in 1898 surviving and prospers.
