We are also one with the nation in the observance of the National No Smoking Month (NNSM) this June!

With this year's theme "To***co: Threat to the Environment," the NNSM aims to raise awareness, especially to the Department's stakeholders, on the harmful effects of smoking towards people and the environment.

Let's make a change, for you and for our environment!!

For more information on the Department's to***co control initiatives, read DepEd Order No. 48, s. 2016:http://www.deped.gov.ph/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/DO_s2016_048.pdf

SCIENTISTS SET ALARM TO THE COMING OF ‘UNLIVABLE WORLD’ BY 2025: PUBLIC, ENCOURAGED TO JOIN IN SAVING EARTH

Scientist Rebellion, a group consisted of over 1,000 scientists all over the world, moves to call for an ecological emergency to avoid the ‘unlivable world’ by 2025.

The said organization was dubbed as Scientist Rebellion as they held that they must expose the reality and severity of the climate and ecological emergency by non-violent civil resistance, leading to the arrest of some of their members.

In their demand letter, Scientist Rebellion stressed that they fear the coming of the simultaneous extreme weather events in the major agricultural areas, which could cause global food shortage and societal collapse.

It can be remembered that the 2015 Paris Agreement committed countries to aim for 1.5 degrees C (2.7 degrees F) global average temperature which is the danger line for global warming.

However, the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) recently reported that the total greenhouse gas (GHG) commission has been continuously climbing up over the last years.

As a response, scientists across the globe joined hands in advocating the reduction of GHG commission by 2025 to preserve the Earth’s chance of not overshooting to 1.5 degrees C.

“Current actions and plans are grossly inadequate, and even these obligations are not being met.”, as per the Scientist Rebellion.

Moreover, they explained in their demands letter that to have a systemic change, the majority must advocate and realize the decarbonization, or the different sectors’ reduction of carbon footprints.

“The rate of environmental destruction closely tracks economic growth, which leads to us extracting more resources from Earth that are not regenerated. Governments and corporations aim to increase growth and profits, inevitably accelerating the destruction of the life on Earth,” as elaborated by the organization.

In that light, the said organization pushes through the implementation of emergency decarbonization and degrowth.

On the other hand, the public has showed massive support to the Scientist Rebellion and started to advocate which aims to save Earth through different ways such as reducing computer carbon footprints through deleting unwanted e-mails, recycling, proper waste management, and tree planting.

𝐋𝐄𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐇 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐄

Let's save our Earth for a bright future. Make a difference, small things matter.

WAYS TO HELP SAVE THE EARTH:

🌿 •LESSEN THE USE OF FOSSIL FUELS
— Burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas results in carbon pollution, which causes climate change. So if we want to stop climate change (and avoid devastating extreme weather, sea level rise wiping out communities, global conflict and instability, etc.), we have to stop burning fossil fuels.

🌿 •PLANT MORE TREES
— It hold water, prevent flooding, recharge underground aquifers, and maintain water v***r in the atmosphere, increasing the opportunity for rainfall.

🌿 •MORE BIKE, LESS CAR
— Riding a bike expands your eco-friendly footprint by keeping you off the city's congested streets. It also helps hold down noise pollution. Every time you take your bicycle instead of the car, you're giving the planet a much-needed break.

🌿 •REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE
— Help to cut down on the amount of waste we throw away. They conserve natural resources, landfill space and energy.

🌿 •DON'T BURN PLASTICS
— They release a toxic substance into the air causing ambient air pollution.

🌿 •CHOOSE LOCAL AND ORGANIC
— It is better for the environment because its practices involve less pollution soil erosion, and energy.

🌿 •DELETE UNNECESSARY / UNWANTED EMAIL
— Deleting emails is the easiest way to reduce your carbon footprint on the computer. Carbon footprint is the total greenhouse gas emissions caused by an individual, event, organization, service, place or product, expressed as carbon dioxide equivalent.

🌿 • USE LED LIGHTING
— It provides many environmental advantages, including being energy efficient, producing zero toxic elements, requiring less light fixtures, and having a longer life span.

🌿 •TURN OFF YOUR LIGHTS
— It will also help to reduce the use of non-renewable resources that are harmful to the environment. You can turn off the lights during the day especially if you don't need them. You can also turn off your appliances to help reduce your carbon footprint and help save the planet.

🌿 •STOP CUTTING MANY TREES
— They produce oxygen while they absorb carbon dioxide.

🌿 • ECOSIA
— Use Ecosia as your search engine, they plant trees while you search on the web. 80% of their profit goes to non-profit organization that focus on reforestation.

WE, US, TOGETHER, SAVE THE EARTH.

[ HEADS UP !! ] March is Fire Prevention Month

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
— Psalm 46:1

As we remember the saying “prevention is better than cure,” nawa'y maalala rin natin kung gaano kahalaga ang prevention when it comes to different disasters. While fires are unforeseen, we can always put in place mechanisms to abate their negative effects.
