TARLAC CITY, Philippines β Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) captured victories in various sporting events during the 2026 State Colleges and Universities Faculty Association of Region III (SCUFAR III) Sports and Cultural Meet, held on August 5β7 at Tarlac State University (TSU).
The three-day regional gathering officially opened on August 5 at the TSU Gymnasium with delegates from the different State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in Central Luzon in attendance. Highlighting the grand opening ceremonies, host institution Tarlac State University showcased a spectacular presentation from its performing artists that captivated the audience. The opening program also featured the raising of the official flags of all participating institutions, with BASC College President Dr. Jameson H. Tan and BASC Faculty and Employees Association President Dr. Marivic A. Capalad proudly raising the BASC banner to signify the college's active participation and commitment to the regional meet.
Dr. Desiderio R. Apag III, Commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), served as the special guest speaker, delivering a message of welcome and encouragement to the faculty delegates while emphasizing unity, wellness, and faculty synergy across state higher education institutions. The program also included cultural performances, the lighting of the athletic flame, the roll call of participating institutions, and the Oath of Sportsmanship, followed by the Mr. and Ms. SCUFAR III 2026 Pageant.
Spearheading BASCβs successful athletic campaign, faculty delegates secured gold medals in three events:
β’ Badminton Menβs Doubles (31β40 years old): Darius Mendoza and Rizaldy Garcia
β’ Billiards Menβs Doubles (Open Age): Ryan Ortega and Glendy Caraig
β’ Dama Womenβs (Open Age): Joyce Ann Bernabe, Cindy Cruz, Catherine Pascual, and Marjorie Calimlim
BASC delegates also earned podium finishes in two additional events:
β’ Billiards Womenβs Singles (Open Age): Leovenza Villacorte (Silver)
β’ Pickleball Womenβs Doubles (45 and below): Camille Sese and Joiece Mariane Cruz (Bronze)
Carrying the theme βDALAN Tungo sa Tagumpay: Fueling Faculty Synergy, Celebrating Culture, towards a Future-Ready Region,β the event brought together BASC and fellow state colleges and universities, including Aurora State College of Technology, Bataan Peninsula State University, Bulacan State University, Central Luzon State University, National Aviation Academy of the Philippines, Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, Pampanga State Agricultural University, Philippine Merchant Marine Academy, President Ramon Magsaysay State University, and Tarlac Agricultural University, hosted by TSU.
BASCβs remarkable performance and participation throughout the event reaffirmed the institutionβs commitment to advancing faculty welfare, fostering inter-collegiate solidarity, and upholding excellence both inside and outside the classroom. As SCUFAR III 2026 concluded on August 7, the delegates returned home equipped with renewed energy, strengthened regional partnerships, and pride in representing the BASC community.
