Working as an intern at a community radio station provided an opportunity to experience how communication goes beyond speaking, as it requires understanding the audience, responding to community needs, and delivering messages that matter. Through writing scripts, developing programs, creating publication materials, and participating in broadcasting activities, the experience highlighted how creativity can connect people and make a difference in the community.

Being an intern with doubts and pressure at the beginning, the 300-hour experience became a meaningful journey of discovering courage, growth, and confidence in facing challenges once thought impossible. More than the tasks and skills learned, the experience showed the importance of guidance and a supportive community in helping people overcome their fears and grow beyond their limitations.

𝐀𝐈𝐇𝐑 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔: IAS Faculty Sweeps Honors at 24th Agency In-House Review

SAN ILDEFONSO, BULACAN—Highlighting the irreplaceable role of human-driven inquiry in an evolving digital age, faculty members of the Institute of Arts and Sciences (IAS) dominated the 24th Agency In-House Review on September 10 at the Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) Farmers’ Training Center.

Spearheaded by the BASC Research, Extension, Production & Development (REPD) Office, this year’s gathering centered on the theme “Cultivating Knowledge, Driving Innovation, Creating Impact.”

Keynote speaker Dr. Roel R. Suralta, Career Scientist IV at the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) and Academician of the National Academy of Science and Technology Philippines (NAST PHL), set a grounded tone for the review. He reminded researchers that modern technology should refine, rather than dictate, scholarly work.

That spirit of authentic human inquiry carried through the presentation of completed research and extension projects, where IAS faculty earned major accolades across educational research and community development categories.

𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 | DevCom interns sail back with an exhibit

Fourth-year Development Communication (DevCom) students showcased their internship journey through “Anchors Aweigh: The Development Communication Internship Exhibit 2026” on September 8 at the Farmers’ Training Center.

The exhibit brought together 11 host training establishments where the interns completed their field exposure, including the Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC), Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Central Luzon, Department of Science and Technology - Provincial Science and Technology Office (DOST-PSTO) Nueva Ecija, Department of Health - Cordillera Administrative Region (DOH CAR) in Baguio City, Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Centers I and III in Pangasinan and Bataan, Philippine Information Agency (PIA) offices in Bulacan, Pampanga, and Nueva Ecija, DWEE 107.1 Community Radio in Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU), Cavite State University (CvSU) Extension Services Center, and the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE).

Institute of Arts and Sciences (IAS) Dean Dr. Roselle D. Urbano attended the event and noted Katalistas' festive vibe. At the same time, Associate Dean Dr. Yosef Eric C. Hipolito graced the event and served as one of the faculty evaluators.

Hosted by Aliza Mae Santos and Mary Chris De Dios, with Jerick Calapatia serving as the live announcer, the program opened with an invocation led by Janille Cruz, followed by the welcome remarks of DevCom Program Chair Dr. Nikki Ann V. Macabontoc. Internship coordinators Mr. Allain John Miguel Manabat and Ms. Lenneth C. Febrero discussed the exhibit mechanics and introduced the panel of judges, respectively. Completing the guest evaluators were Ms. Eiffel N. Marcelo of IAS, Engr. Benjie C. Timbang, Director of Palayamanan R&D Center, and Mr. Aljon Macsino of the Institute of Computer Studies.

Exhibit Committee Head Paulin Elcano emphasized the value of presenting the interns’ knowledge, competencies, and field experiences. Meanwhile, Camille Adriene De Jesus and Irish Jane Floza shared testimonials reflecting on their professional growth and key takeaways from the 300-hour internship program, which began in June. Christian Viñeza, an exhibit committee member, led the ribbon-cutting ceremony to formally open the exhibit.

Faculty members, students, and guests took part in interactive activities prepared by the DevCom seniors as they explored the different presentations, including magazines, video promotions, publication materials, and agricultural products.

The exhibit concluded with the recognition of the winning booths: CvSU interns bagged the “Best Booth,” CHR Region III for the “Special Citation,” and DA-ATI RTC III for the “Most Entertaining.”

On September 8, 2026, fourth-year Katalistas proudly showcased the knowledge, skills, and experiences they gained throughout their internship journey.

Like navigators returning from a voyage, they brought their lessons from the field ashore and transformed them into meaningful stories and creative outputs.

The exhibit was witnessed and evaluated by faculty members, guest evaluators, administrators, and fellow students who joined in celebrating the interns’ accomplishments.

Anchors Aweigh: The Development Communication Internship Exhibit 2026 marks a new point of departure toward greater horizons in the field of Development Communication.
