Timbang as Director for the Palayamanan R&D Center; and Ms. Marielle G. Vergara as Director for the Food Innovation Center.

The Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev), as Secretariat to the National Innovation Council (NIC), invites eligible government organizations to submit proposals for innovation programs, activities, and projects (PAPs) to be funded under the 2025 Innovation Grants.

This initiative is designed to promote innovation as a key driver of national development and economic growth, particularly in supporting marginalized communities and integrating micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) within both domestic and global supply chains, in accordance with Republic Act No. 11293 or the Philippine Innovation Act.

📋 Who are Eligible to Apply?
· National Government Agencies (NGAs) — including attached agencies, regional offices, and operating units;
· Local Government Units (LGUs) — including local universities and colleges (LUCs);
· State Universities and Colleges (SUCs); and
· Government-Owned and –Controlled Corporations (GOCCs).

💡 What Types of Proposals are Funded?
Proposals are welcome in any of these areas:
· Pre-commercialization, commercialization, or diffusion activities;
· Innovation facilities and services;
· Promotion of innovation culture and capacity-building; and
· Innovation policy development and administration.

𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬' 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐂 𝐑𝐃𝐄 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓-𝟐𝟎𝟑𝟎

On March 26, 2025, at 3:00 PM, an important meeting was held via Zoom to refine the Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) Agenda for the year 2025-2030. The meeting gathered key institutional stakeholders, including the Institute/College Deans, Associate Deans, Research Coordinators, Faculty Researchers, and Extensionists.

The primary objective of the meeting was to review and update the RDE agenda, ensuring that it aligns with the evolving needs and priorities of the institution, as well as the broader community.

The attendees worked through a comprehensive review of the agenda, suggesting revisions to improve its focus and impact. The outcome of this meeting is expected to guide the institution's RDE programs in the coming years, promoting advancements in agricultural research, development, and community outreach.

Following the refinement of the internal agenda, BASC will proceed with its External Stakeholder Meeting. This next step will involve engaging with other agencies and institutions, ensuring that the agenda is further enhanced by incorporating external insights and collaboration opportunities.

The refined RDE agenda will be instrumental in guiding BASC's strategic initiatives for the 2025-2030 period, strengthening its commitment to fostering research, development, and extension efforts that contribute to sustainable agricultural growth and community well-being.

✨𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠-𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬✨

On February 26-27, 2025, the Training-Workshop on Crafting Research Proposals and Publishable Articles was successfully held at Cayetano Hall, BASC. The event brought together faculty and staff to enhance their skills in writing publishable academic papers and crafting competitive research proposals for external funding.

Dr. Jaime A. Manalo IV, a Career Scientist II and the current head of the Socioeconomics Division of the Philippine Rice Research Institute, as well as an esteemed expert in the field of research and publication, served as the resource speaker for the workshop. With his extensive experience in both publishing and securing research grants, Dr. Manalo shared invaluable insights into the research writing process, the nuances of crafting publishable papers, and the critical elements of successful grant applications.

The primary aim of the workshop was to equip participants with essential tools for developing high-quality, publishable research papers that meet international standards. Additionally, the event focused on providing strategies for writing compelling research proposals, which are crucial for securing external grants and funding for future academic projects.

Throughout the workshop, attendees engaged in practical exercises that addressed the core components of crafting impactful research papers, such as methodology, data analysis, journal submission processes, as well as key strategies for preparing persuasive proposals to secure external funding opportunities.

The event was an essential part of the institution’s ongoing efforts to foster academic growth, strengthen research output, and support the professional development of its faculty and staff.
