ENOUGH IS ENOUGH:
THIS IS OUR CALL TO PROPHETIC ACTION
By Frenz Cedric R. Abelita, LPT
How many more lives must be lost before those in power finally listen? How many homes must be drowned in floodwaters, how many families displaced, how many dreams buried in the mud of neglect before we admit the truth โ that these disasters are not merely โacts of natureโ but the direct result of corruption, greed, and betrayal?
We, at Mt. Carmel College of San Francisco, Inc., stand with every Filipino crying out for accountability. The ghost flood control projects, the stolen public funds, the unfulfilled promises โ these are not mistakes. They are deliberate acts of injustice that have cost lives. While the poor suffer and the young lose hope, some continue to profit from the nationโs pain. How dare they.
Corruption is not just a political issue โ it is a moral offense, a sin against God and humanity. When those entrusted with power choose wealth over duty and indifference over compassion, they wound the very soul of the nation.
In Carmel, we are taught that Resiliency is a Carmelian virtue โ โthe ability to bounce back after encountering difficulties in life,โ to stand firm in faith even amid the fiercest storms. But resiliency was never meant to be an excuse for silence. It is not a call to simply endure; it is a call to rise. True resiliency ignites Prophetic Action, the courage to confront injustice, the boldness to speak truth even when it is uncomfortable, and the conviction to turn faith into concrete deeds for justice, peace, and integrity.
To those who have abused our environment who cut down forests for profit, leveled mountains for greed, and choked rivers with waste โ how dare you! The flash floods that sweep away homes and the landslides that bury communities are not โnatural disastersโ; they are the consequences of your exploitation and neglect. You have wounded creation and endangered countless lives for the sake of selfish gain. Every drop of floodwater carries the weight of your corruption. Every life lost in the mud cries out against your greed. The earth itself groans in anguish, demanding justice from those who were entrusted to protect it but chose instead to destroy it.
This is no longer just about rebuilding homes โ it is about rebuilding integrity, restoring accountability, and reviving the nationโs conscience. We refuse to accept a system that rewards corruption and silences truth.
Let us stop romanticizing resiliency.
Let us demand justice.
Let us transform faith into action.
True faith seeks justice.
True resiliency calls for reform.
Silence allows evil to win.
As Carmelians, we will not remain silent. We are called not only to pray but to act โ to become prophetic witnesses, to stand for truth, integrity, and the love of God and country.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
This is our call to prophetic action.
