RAINPHIL conducted a comprehensive seminar-workshop for CMLS instructors and staff focusing on the core principles and practical applications of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The morning session covered the molecular biology workflow, PCR kits, and system specifications, while the afternoon session emphasized hands-on training—from DNA extraction and PCR amplification to gel electrophoresis and proper result documentation.

This initiative reinforces the quality of Molecular Biology laboratory instruction by integrating updated techniques and promoting standardized, best-practice workflows.

The CMLS Faculty Outreach held on December 8, 2025 in Isla Solomon, Pugo, La Union brought health education on proper handwashing and disease prevention, along with the distribution of hygiene kits, food, Safeguard soaps, slippers, and donated clothes. 🧼🎒 The team also provided basic lab services such as blood typing, urinalysis, and blood glucose testing. 🩸🧪 This activity was made possible through the collective efforts of the CMLS Faculty, our Extension Program Head Mr. Ugay, student organizations (CMLS Student Body Organization, Red Cross Youth Council, Rotaract Club), CPH second-year students, and partner groups PAMET La Union and UST MedTech Batch 1971. 🤝✨

The College of Pharmacy and the College of Medical Laboratory Science (CMLS) of Lorma Colleges successfully hosted a one-day seminar, “Ensuring Safe and Secure Academic Laboratories through Effective Biorisk Management,” on August 28, 2025 at the Pavilion, Carlatan Campus. The event, held in collaboration with the BioRisk Association of the Philippines (BRAP), National Chapter, was attended by third-year BMLS students, first to third-year Pharmacy students, faculty, lab staff, and FESO representatives.

The seminar opened with welcome remarks from Ms. Ellen Mae P. Abiqui, Higher Education Academic Director, followed by Dr. Wilson Laranang, BRAP Ilocos Region President, and Mr. Ronaldo E. Puno, BRAP National President, who introduced the basics of biorisk and biosafety management.

The morning session covered lab-related infections, biorisk fundamentals, DOH waste management, and lab safety, including a workshop on proper waste segregation. The afternoon session focused on biopreparedness, incident response, and spill management through interactive workshops. The seminar concluded with a post-test, evaluation, and closing remarks from Ms. Josephine C. Milan, Dean of CMLS.

The seminar successfully equipped students with both knowledge and practical skills for safe and responsible lab practices. The collaboration with BRAP highlighted Lorma Colleges’ commitment to preparing future health professionals who are competent and safety-conscious.

The Red Cross Youth Council (RCYC) of LORMA Colleges, in partnership with the College of Medical Laboratory Science, proudly received the Third Place Award for Highest Blood Collection in the School Category during the Philippine Red Cross – La Union Chapter awarding ceremonies held on July 29, 2025, at Hotel Ariana, Bauang, La Union.

This recognition highlights the dedication, teamwork, and spirit of volunteerism demonstrated by the RCYC family, advisers, and student leaders, together with the invaluable support of CMLS Blood Banking classes. More than an accolade, it stands as a testament to Lorma Colleges’ commitment to service, compassion, and saving lives through continuous support of blood donation initiatives.
