Saint Louis College of San Fernando, La Union (SLC-SFLU) further expanded its international academic network with the formalization of a partnership with Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY), one of the highlights of the 32nd ASEACCU Conference 2026 held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Conducted on August 20, 2026, the MOU signing brought together participating ASEACCU member institutions as they affirmed their shared commitment to strengthening academic cooperation and international engagement. Among the participating institutions were members of the CICM Philippine Schools Network (CICM PSN), reflecting the continuing collaboration and solidarity of CICM-administered higher education institutions in advancing internationalization. Signing on behalf of SLC-SFLU was Rev. Fr. Roderick G. Villamar, CICM, PhD, College President, while UAJY was represented by its Rector, Dr. G. Sri Nurhartanto, S.H., LL.M.
The partnership provides opportunities for reciprocal student exchanges and the exploration of the exchange of information concerning academic curricula. It likewise encourages collaborative research projects, international conferences, and other activities considered mutually beneficial to both institutions. These areas of cooperation create promising avenues for SLC-SFLU students and faculty members to engage with an international academic community, gain exposure to diverse perspectives and practices, and develop collaborative initiatives that enrich teaching, learning, and research.
For SLC-SFLU students, the partnership opens pathways to learning experiences that extend beyond the traditional classroom. Student exchanges and other collaborative activities can broaden cultural perspectives, strengthen intercultural competence, and develop the adaptability and confidence needed in an increasingly interconnected world. For faculty members, meanwhile, the partnership provides opportunities for knowledge exchange, collaborative research, curriculum enrichment, joint academic activities, and professional networking. The benefits of these engagements have the potential to reach the wider academic community as international perspectives and experiences are brought back into the classrooms and academic programs of the College.
More than a formal agreement between two institutions, the partnership with UAJY represents another concrete step in SLC-SFLUโs continuing pursuit of meaningful internationalization. Its inclusion among the highlights of the ASEACCU Conference underscores the importance of institutional partnerships in creating opportunities for students and educators to learn and collaborate across borders. Together with fellow ASEACCU member institutions and the CICM PSN community, SLC-SFLU continues to strengthen its global academic presence while remaining committed to providing Louisian learners with transformative experiences that prepare them to become globally minded, culturally responsive, and engaged contributors to society.
