Speaking of, did you know? That the most popular soda drink, Coca-Cola, was actually invented by a pharmacist! Back in 1886, Dr. John Pemberton created a syrup from coca leaf extracts and kola nuts as a medicinal tonic and sold it to a nearby pharmacy, where it became an instant hit after it was mixed with carbonated water. His partner and bookkeeper, Frank M. Robinson, were the ones that came up with the name "Coca-Cola" and designed the style of the logo that we still see today.

𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐃𝐎𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐏𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐒!

With finals coming up, here’s your monthly dose of ✨𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗦✨ back on another breakthrough for you to add on your notes!

Penicillin, derived from Penicillium mold, is one of the earliest and most commonly used antibiotics. In 1928, 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴, a Professor of Bacteriology at St. Mary's Hospital in London, returned from holiday and noticed that the bacteria is avoiding a spot where a green mold grew—as if the mold had released a substance that prevented bacterial growth.

Fleming assigned the isolation of the Penicillium mold to his assistants, Stuart Craddock and Frederick Ridley. He published his findings in the 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆, noting penicillin's therapeutic potential. Because of his discovery, 𝗛𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘆 and 𝗘𝗿𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻 was able to purify penicillin in the late 1930s. By 1941, an injectable form became available for treating infections, spurring further antibiotic development.

Yesterday, 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟳𝘁𝗵, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, the 1st-year pharmacy students, the stunning 𝗠𝘀. 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝘇𝘆 𝗔𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝘀 and charismatic 𝗠𝗿. 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗶 𝗔𝗹 𝗧𝗮𝗯𝗯𝗮𝗻 showcased us with elegance, confidence, and charisma at the 𝗠𝗿. 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝘀. 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 (𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗦) 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 held at the University of the Assumption’s Auditorium.

Competing against outstanding candidates from Nursing, Psychology, Criminology, Human Services, and Communication programs, Maizy and Dani both made it to the 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝟯 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 and have been awarded 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗨𝗽! 💐🥈 A well-deserved recognition for their exceptional effort and performance. Special congratulations to Dani for being awarded as "𝗠𝗿. 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰," capturing hearts with his photogenic charm! ✨
