💡| 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐚, commonly known as the 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐎𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐝, is widely distributed in Southeast Asia and has escaped cultivation to become naturalized throughout the Caribbean, Florida, and Hawaii. Naturalized plants often revert to a wild form, becoming self-pollinating with cleistogamous flowers. Capsules develop very quickly after pollination, making it common to see flowers and seedpods on the same plant. This orchid blooms in May through July in abandoned shell pits, pond shores, and woodlands.

The ground orchids, also known as terrestrial orchids, are known for their vibrant pink to purple and pleated leaves, thriving in warm, bright, indirect light, and well-draining soil. Its odorless flowers occur in groups of 5 - 30 and open a few at a time (4 cm wide). Flowers are composed of 1 dorsal sepal, 2 petals, 2 lateral sepals, and a lip, which are all pinkish purple. The terminal inflorescence is borne on a long stalk, reaching up to 1.5 - 2 m in length. This species is free flowering.

🌱𝐆𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐀! ✨

🦎| The 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐟𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐫𝐝 is a semi-aquatic reptile found only in the Philippines. Protected in the country due to illegal collection for the exotic pet trade, this species is admired for its striking dorsal “sailfin” crest and bright green, brown, and yellow coloration. Males are larger than females, with bigger heads, darker limbs, and taller sails that can turn violet during mating season, while females show violet only on the neck crest area.

Its upright sail, stretching from the lower back to the tail base, helps with swimming, territorial displays, and body temperature regulation. With a cylindrical body, flattened tail for propulsion, and fringed toes for swimming (and for juveniles, even running across water), this agile lizard thrives near freshwater habitats like rivers, mangroves, rice fields, and rocky streams. It is diurnal, often resting on tree branches near water, and can be found on islands such as Guimaras, Romblon, Negros, and Cebu, but the Lizard is not found in Palawan Island.
