Aimed at equipping the fourth year BA Political Science students with essential skills and professional readiness for their upcoming internships, a Pre-Student internship Program (SIP) Deployment seminar was conducted on August 25, 2026, at Cafe Luis, Saint Louis College.
Mr Jocel R. Opena, the Program Head of Liberal Arts and Student Internship Practicum (SIP) Coordinator, delivered a lecture on "Practicum on Political Science" where he presented the general qualitative evaluation results of the interns last school year provided by the Host Training Establishments (HTEs).
The session proceeded with Mr. Opeรฑaโs discussion on Gender and Development, a topic that was suggested during the last school yearโs Industry-Academe Interface. Basic concepts were reiterated like how one's gender dictates the expected roles, issues, problems, successes, and failures together with the concept of gender sensitivity, gender awareness, gender responsiveness, and lastly, gender mainstreaming. The sharing concluded by highlighting the roles of institutions in the promotion of gender roles that support equality and healthy relationships. Mr. Opeรฑa was the former GAD Focal Person. .
Mr. Paolo G. Dolor, Manager of San Luis del Mar, came next as the second speaker during the morning session. He dealt with Personality Development and Office Etiquette. His sharing emphasized on how unique thought and behavior patterns emerge over time through genetics, environment, parenting, and personal experience. The discussion highlighted building exterior confidence and credibility through proper grooming, personal hygiene, and professional etiquetteโemphasizing practical standards like the "5 S's" (stand firm, smile genuinely, see their eyes, say hello, and shake hands) and daily etiquette habits. Participants also explored personal development as a tool for self-improvement by identifying core traits and setting daily growth goals.
Further, the session with Mr. Dolor continued with Interpersonal Communication Skills, centering on the idea that effective communication extends far beyond verbal words. The speaker emphasized how non-verbal factorsโsuch as rate of speech, volume, tone, pitch, distance, posture, and gesturesโdirectly influence how messages are received and how comfort level drives open communication. Students then applied these concepts through practical discussions on maintaining a positive mindset and applying proactive etiquette in professional and social settings.
The morning session provided the 4th-year BAPOS students with a comprehensive foundation for their upcoming workplace entry. By bridging the practical expectations of Host Training Establishments with essential soft skillsโfrom personal grooming and etiquette to non-verbal communicationโthe lectures equipped the students with both the professional mindset and interpersonal tools needed to excel in their Student Internship Practicum (SIP).
