On March 16, 2026, the students of Diploma in Hospitality Management (DHMT) LUCST-Annex campus had their Filipino Brand of Service Excellence (FBSE) seminar, a flagship training program of the Department of Tourism (DOT) facilitated by the resource speaker, Ms. Lorie Jane Rosales, DOT R1 FBSE trainer at the Function Hall LUCST Main Campus. It was designed to promote unique Filipino hospitality as a national brand. Rooted in traditional values, the seminar aimed to equip DHMT students with high-class service skills that carry a distinctive "Filipino touch.”
The training was structured into three main modules that was focusing on cultural values and practical service skills:
• The 7Ms of Filipino Gratitude: These represent the core values infused into service:
o Maka-Diyos (God-centered)
o Makatao (Humanity-driven)
o Makakalikasan (Environmentally conscious)
o Makabansa (Patriotic)
o Masayahin (Joyful/Cheerful)
o May Bayanihan (Community spirit)
o May Pag-asa (Hopeful)
• The G.U.E.S.T. Technique: A step-by-step approach for delivering excellent service: Greet, Understand, Explain, Satisfy, and Thank.
• The H.E.A.R.T. Method: A framework for service recovery and handling complaints: Hear, Empathize, Apologize, Resolve, and Thank.
• The Mabuhay Gesture: Participants are trained to use the traditional "Mabuhay" greeting and hand-to-chest gesture to symbolize warmth and respect.
As a reflection, the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence (FBSE) let the DHMT participants internalize the 7Ms of Filipino Values—especially Makatao and May Bayanihan. The lessons from world-class service are not just about technical skills, but about genuine heart and empathy. Applying the G.U.E.S.T. technique and the H.E.A.R.T. method would allow Filipinos represent the Philippines with pride and professionalism.
The seminar was also graced by DHMT faculty members led by the Tech-Voc Head, Ms. Vanessa F. Yee with the unwavering support of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Ms. Sheila F. Tabian and the School President, Ms. Marie Cherry M. Quinto.
