SLC Marching Band

✨𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐋𝐂 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐁𝐀𝐍𝐃✨

In 1974, ten years after the CICM Missionaries established Saint Louis College (formerly known as Fr. Burgos College) in the City of San Fernando, La Union, Mr. Julian Sotelo, a young musician, formed and organized the SLC Drum and Bugle Corps, which is made up of only twelve all-male student members. In 1976, two years after its formation, numerous instruments w

ere added to the corps, including cornets, saxophones, clarinets, and trombones, making it official when Mr. Julian Sotelo rebranded and turned the organization into a Marching Band known as the SLC Band. Years passed, and the band began to welcome female members in 1989, as they performed on numerous occasions throughout the North. The marching band's sole purpose remains to provide students with the ability to learn how to play musical instruments and showcase their musical talents not only in front of an audience, but also to inspire each individual and bring music closer to their hearts and souls.

20th century came and Mr. Julian Sotelo stepped down as Band Master in 2014, passing his conductor stick to Mr. Florodel Agoot, to make way for a newer generation, giving the band a new look and renaming it the SLC Marching Band, providing more opportunities to students as early as elementary school while participating in school and other parades in the Province of La Union. The year 2018 began, and with the influence of the training camp with the SLU Symphonic Band and the Imus Youth Symphonic Band that was held in Baguio City, Mr. Agoot and the band members pushed their way into a newer level and became a Symphonic Band that was later known for providing various musics and performing different genres, from classics to the modern era, as well as their ability to read music notes to a deeper level. In 2019, another milestone was reached by the band as Mr. Florodel Agoot was appointed Board Member of the Color Guards Alliance of the Philippines Incorporated (CGAP), a non-profit organization in Quezon City formed by Ms. Because of their dedication in their field, the SLC Symphonic Band was blessed with another opportunity, and the CGAP hosted and conducted their first summer workshop (CGAP CampSpin) for the institution's Colorguards, along with students from other schools in the province, focusing on and improving their skills in flag and baton twirling. The year 2020 brought the COVID-19 pandemic. The Symphonic Band faced numerous challenges, including the lack of weekly rehearsals and the limitation of social engagements. As a result, the band became disorganized, and Mr. Agoot resigned as Band Master of the group and was replaced by Mr. Julian Sotelo, who is now the present Marching Band Director returned once again to rebuild the group and renamed it the SLC Marching Band, as it is now known. For 51 years, the Saint Louis College Marching Band has continued to play, march, and provide soulful music to audiences with their God-given abilities not only within the institution, but also in their province and beloved country, participating in many school and community activities. The Band dedicated itself to humanitarian responsibilities, whether through fiestas, religious processions, foundation day celebrations, or performances, using the excellence offered by their institution and the togetherness that keeps the band playing in one harmony.
