Nananawagan ang Department of Education (DepEd) sa media, vloggers, content creators, at sa publiko na iwasang mag-post, magbahagi, o magpalaganap ng mga video, larawan, at iba pang sensitibong materyal kaugnay ng naganap na pamamaril sa isang pribadong paaralan sa Zamboanga City.

Sharing graphic images or videos inflicts secondary trauma, violates privacy, and exploits tragedy.

We strongly urge the public to:

⚫ Not share graphic footage. Refrain from forwarding or posting videos and explicit images. Delete and report them immediately.

⚫ Stop the spread of rumors: Avoid posting unverified information that worsens panic and fear.

⚫ Protect victim dignity: Respect the privacy of students, teachers, and families.

Let us honor the victims by cultivating empathy, safeguarding our digital spaces, and protecting our learning communities.

I am deeply saddened by this morning’s shooting at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior High School.

As a father, my heart goes out to the parents who are grieving today. My sympathies are likewise with all the families affected by this tragedy, as well as the teachers, learners, and school personnel who experienced this terrible incident.

The Department of Education has directed its Regional Office IX to coordinate with the school and other concerned authorities and to make psychosocial support available to affected learners, teachers, and families as needed. Whether public or private, they are our learners.

The Philippine National Police is leading the investigation. We will await the findings of the investigation, especially on how the fi****ms came into the possession of a minor and was brought onto a school campus, so that we can learn from this tragedy and help prevent similar incidents in other schools.

I also appeal to the public to refrain from circulating videos, photographs, or unverified accounts of the incident. Minors and grieving families are involved, and their privacy and dignity deserve our protection.

As part of the implementation of the 𝘾𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙪𝙨 𝙈𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙁𝙚𝙨𝙩, guided by Republic Act No. 7079, otherwise known as the Campus Journalism Act of 1991, the 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙚 9 𝙎𝙋𝘼–𝙏𝙖𝙗𝙪𝙚𝙣𝙖 learners, under the supervision of their English teacher, Nova Vera Magalona-Regala, showcased their creativity, storytelling skills, and potential in campus journalism through the publication of their 𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙘.

Building a Culture of Preparedness and Service!

Our Ledesmanian Responders officially begin their 5-day Capability Training on Disaster Preparedness, Standard First Aid, and Basic Life Support at the Alger Community Center from August 17–21, 2026.

Guided by the directives of DM No. 354, s. 2026 and Corrigendum DM No. 364, s. 2026, this training strengthens the knowledge, skills, and readiness of our learners and responders in promoting safety, emergency response, and community resilience.

With hearts ready to serve and hands prepared to help, our Ledesmanian Responders continue to embody the spirit of bayanihan and compassion - always ready to respond when help is needed.
