WE ARE BOUND TO THE NATIONALS! 🎉

The recently concluded APMC convention yielded for us a great win. The Healthcare Innovation team fought head-to-head with competitors from other medical schools. However, they emerged victorious as they landed top 2 in the competition and will compete in the Virtual National Semis, and get a chance to advance to the National Finals in Cebu, Philippines this March. Likewise, the debate and clinic-pathologic competition teams clinched both 3rd runners up. 🏆 We are also very proud of our Quiz Bee Team who represented our Faculty well!

USTMED Healthcare Innovation Team is awarded First Runner-Up in the 2023 Regional Academics Competition held by the APMC Student Network - NCRSL.

They will proceed to the National Semifinals (Virtual) and stand a chance to qualify to the National Finals which will be held in Cebu City this March.

Congratulations to Micah Rivero (3C), Paulene Miriel Viacrusis (1D), Thirdy Dumlao III (1B), and MAS President Gab Paragas (3C). Thank you for raising UST MED'S Flag Well.

Meanwhile, CPC and Debate Teams both bag 3rd Runners-Up in their respective competitions.

Let’s get the ball rolling! Now that we’ve introduced you to Team Debate, let us now dive into the world of mystery and diagnosis through collaborative effort— a culmination of both the basic and clinical sciences! Introducing: the UST Medicine Clinicopathologic Conference (CPC) Team! 🕵️🕵️🕵️

First off, what is a CPC? It is a case-based method of learning medicine via a problem-solving approach. The idea was first practiced in Boston (1900) by a Harvard internist, Dr. Richard C. Cabot, who held this as an informal discussion session in his private office.

Now then, are you curious how the body goes from point A to B? Or do you ever wonder how a disease progresses from its acute phase to a full blown process? Or do you just want to develop your clinical eye to see what others don’t? Then you found the right place! 👁👁👁

Sharpen your mind as you train for the next Clinico-Pathologic Conference! The UST Medicine CPC team is currently holding its team try-outs. Train to understand the pathologic process of diseases, correlate history and physical exam findings with the different ancillary results, and plan the effective management for the patient.

As medical students, there are a number of skills that are expected of us- understanding thousands of medical concepts, reporting patient cases, and integrating all of these aspects into treatment plans for our patients. It can all be very daunting, especially if you don’t feel confident in your public speaking skills, but that's what Team Debate is for.

Becoming a member of Team Debate will help you grow as a person, as a student, and as a future doctor. You will gain knowledge and learn new skills, whether in leadership, communication, problem-solving, presentation and public speaking. Additionally, you will become confident in expressing and defending your ideas, and you will be able to stand up for what you believe in. 💞

[MYTHOS IN FOCUS] UST MEDICINE ACADEMIC SOCIETY

From the vast midnight sky draws the wonders of the stars, painting what might seem an uncertain void into a masterpiece filled with dreams and hope. Behind these stars is Tala, the goddess of the morning and evening star— a painter of the empty skies.

Tala, one of the daughters of Bathala, creates light orbs that help guide men on their paths to reach their destinations at night. As the goddess of the stars, she is considered the painter of the night skies, and in some stories, she is one who informs and warns the moon goddess as the heat of the sun god threatens to scorch other stars. In some regions and cultures, she is equivalent to Pandac (Ilongot/ Cordilleras), the god of stars and giver of life.

Illuminating rather than just shining; fighting with burning passion for competence and life-giving knowledge is the UST MEDICINE ACADEMIC SOCIETY: the Faculty’s Official Academic Competitions - sending body. Founded in 2016, the Society has trained and produced victors in Debate, Quiz Bees, Clinicopathologic Case Competitions in the local scene. Believing in the values of teamwork, empowerment, and enlightenment, they serve to be the star to enlighten your path in pursuing your dreams of becoming a doctor no matter what.
