400 YEARS OF REPRESSION: A Discussion on the History of Repression and Resistance within UST

From its colonial roots to the present, the University of Santo Tomas has functioned not only as an educational institution, but also as a tightly controlled space where student expression and dissent have repeatedly been suppressed and trampled on. Thomasians have experienced recurring limits on democratic participation and freedom of expression, where questioning the status quo has often led to fascism in the form of regulation and punishment.

However, these cases are not isolated. The systematic repression within our campus is a direct reflection of a broader, state-backed system that seeks to strip the youth of their critical voice and force conformity to the status quo. Similar to what happens within UST: state fascism uses intimidation, red-tagging, and bureaucratic regulations to silence critics, criminalize dissent, and suppress progressive ideas.

As Thomasians, to uphold Compassion, Competence, and Commitment is to stand against these forms of repression. Under the current climate of fear imposed upon the students, we must struggle against the threats of fascism within our campus. And to resist against repression means breaking out of the four walls of the university, learning about society and engaging with the masses to fight for genuine change.

Thomasians, stand against student repression!

Sa pagtatapos ng school year, wala pa rin pananagutan, makupad ang tugon at nananatili ang malalang redtagging! Tama na! Wakasan na!

Sumama bukas, May 22, 3PM sa harap ng UST Gate 11 sa isang kilos-protesta para manawagan na dinggin ang lehitimong panawagan ng mga thomasian na labanan ang redtagging, student repression, at ang pag pigil sa mga estudyante na lumaban!

Mga panahon na B A S E D AF pa ang UST - Office for Student Affairs. In fairness kay former OSA Director Tio Cuison, wala siyang takot. Kaso napasobra lang ng pamumulis dun sa CICS uniform na ala 7Eleven, yan napalitan tuloy.

Pero ang UST OSA ngayon? Damn weak as hell.

NTBR yan dahil member ng unrecognized org sa UST in violation of the UST Student Code, hindi ng kung ano mang “mass organization” front kuno mga vakla!

Big check para malaman nila ang pagkakaiba ng PRIVATE school sa PUBLIC school.

Mga beks, you can’t force a PRIVATE school to admit you because of violation of your enrollment contract and undertaking. For sure gagamitin na namang spiel ito na pAsiStA ang UST at "against students' rights." Berirong tayo dyan mga beks! When you breach your enrollment contract, you suffer the consequences. Sa termination nga ng Soto-Enrile Accord ngawa overload kayo, on school independence and then in this case kebs lang? Kung di ginawa ng UST yan, magiging unfair sila towards other students who are abiding by the UST Student Code. These hypocrites are too fair to themselves that they become unfair to others.

Rule of Law ang sigaw pero sila mismo numero uno violators.
Kala ko ba "uphold academic freedom?" Academic freedom ang sigaw pero ayaw i-recognize ang academic freedom ng UST.
Galit kuno sa impunity pero ayaw maging accountable sa sariling actions. Freedom of speech daw pero ang gusto talaga freedom from speech they don’t like. Sobrang hypocrite ng double standards natin mga lek! 💅

Salamat sa University of Santo Tomas! Thank you for showing your Growling Tiger teeth in enforcing the provisions of the UST Student Code. Thank you for making your students accountable for violations of their enrollment undertaking and conforme. Thank you for standing up for the rights of LEGITIMATE and RECOGNIZED student organizations. If we let these UNRECOGNIZED and ILLEGAL "student organizations" to operate INSIDE THE UNIVERSITY and recruit Thomasians, para saan pa at kailangan magpa-recognize ng org sa UST - Office for Student Affairs?
