Cruz lies between the Northern and Eastern part which occupies ยผ of the entire Island. Sources of information from the early inhabitants that Brgy. Cruz was created before the World War II. It was legalized through a legislative made by
Mr. Agapito Tangag the first Brgy. Captain known as โ€œTeniente del Barrio โ€œ before. The name itself was derived from the Patron Saint Sr. The
community is

a kilometer away from the seashore. Years had passed, people from different places in cities and provinces migrated in the island particularly in Barangay Sta. Cruz for survival purposes. This is one of the biggest barangay of Kaputian District. It has 2,400 hectares, with the population of 4,000 based from the annual census. In the early times
of existence transportations were motorcycles and carriage, while in going out of the island to Kaputian or Davao City boats are the means of travel
transportations of passengers with their products to be sold. Considering Talicud wharf as the main entry of passengers from four barangays of the island, the road had been rehabilitated by the local government
accessible to any type of vehicles. Two storey barangay hall was built to accommodate enough clients that need services and government conferences. The barangay has 66.63% of the population engaged in farming, 23.21% are laborers, and 13.15% are professionals. It has one elementary school,
the Sta. Cruz Elementary School and a secondary school, the Sta. Cruz National High School. This was a barangay high school before. It was nationalized in the
year 1988. The late Fausto Bolivar Sr. was the Assistant Principal, Mrs. Caberos was the OIC and two teachers were hired at that time. It was established in 1966 under the leadership of Barangay Captain Pedro Sombrio with the assistance of Mr. Pablo S. Niones, elementary school
administrator. There were two year levels opened, first and second year. They had their classes in a vacant room at the elementary school building and the
other at the barangay hall. There were two full-time teachers at that time namely: Adelina Dela Cruz and Leon Estrada and four part time elementary teachers
who rendered services to the secondary. They were : Felix Quezada, Domingo Llanos, Geronima Saldaรฑa and Mr. Laurentino Medina. The creation of the secondary school in the island was under the ARATA PLAN. Years had passed the national government had implemented a law
under Republic Act 6054 declaring equal opportunity for all citizens of the country, through this Republic Act., Mr. Niones the elementary school
administrator with the coordination of the Barangay Officials headed by the late Martin Remoreras with the residents of Barangay Sta. Cruz decided to put
up a secondary school, in the island to facilitate the students to complete their secondary education. In 1968 there was already a complete secondary education. The number of teachers had increased, 2 additional full-time teachers and 4 were part
time teachers. Their compensation was just in a form of honorarium per teacher. Several years had passed, the enrolment of the school had increased, first and second year were divided into two sections with the total of six
sections, another additional teachers were hired. They were full-time teachers and 6 part time teachers.
