SICC GAD Unit Conducts Dialogue on Community Assistance, Rights Protection, and Student Empowerment

The Gender and Development (GAD) Unit successfully conducted the Dialogue on Community Assistance, Rights Protection, and Empowerment of Students in Vulnerable Situations on July 24, 2026, at the SICC Auditorium.

The program was spearheaded by Ms. Vaneza C. Paquiao, Head of the SICC Gender and Development Unit, in collaboration with the GADvocates Club Officers. The activity formally commenced with welcome remarks delivered by Mr. Carlos Manlapos, Assistant College Administrator, who emphasized the importance of promoting inclusive and supportive learning environments for all students.

The Dialogue featured distinguished resource speakers from various sectors who shared valuable insights on issues affecting vulnerable groups. Mr. Ray Mari Paulo Buaya, Chief Executive Officer of Aquila Softwares Corporation, discussed the importance of financial literacy and responsible financial management. Ms. April B. Lape, representative of the Solo Parents Sector from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), presented the rights, privileges, and legal foundations provided under the Solo Parents Welfare Act. Meanwhile, Mr. Leoniel C. Candido, representative of the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Sector of the CSWDO, discussed the programs, services, laws, and policies that protect and support persons with disabilities.

The Dialogue aimed to raise awareness of students' rights and the support services available to them, promote gender equality and inclusivity, empower students through programs that foster personal growth and well-being, and provide a safe space for meaningful dialogue, learning, and community engagement.

Through initiatives such as this, the SICC Gender and Development Unit continues to strengthen its commitment to fostering an inclusive academic community where every student is informed, empowered, and supported regardless of their circumstances.

The Gender and Development (GAD) Unit will be conducting First-Year Student Interviews in compliance with CHED reporting requirements for Special Equity Groups (SEGs) for A.Y. 2026–2027.

These interviews are essential in validating student information to help strengthen gender-responsive programs, student development initiatives, and inclusive support services.

Attended the Region XI GAD Advocates Network (RGAN) Meeting and Planning on June 22–23, 2026. This gathering served as a valuable platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strengthening our collective commitment to advancing Gender and Development (GAD) initiatives across the region.

Through this engagement, we reaffirmed our dedication to championing gender equality, inclusivity, and meaningful partnerships that foster safer, more equitable, and empowered communities for all.
