𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙘𝙖𝙣'𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙡𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛?

Most of us have a ticklish spot somewhere on our bodies, and it is usually pretty easy to find. That same ticklish feeling sends us into a state of panic and elicits a response of uncontrollable laughter if a person tickles us. It's the moment that you least expect to be tickled and are that causes you to feel extremely uneasy and panicked, which leads to the most intense ticklish feeling.

For the same reason, 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀. If we grab our sides in an attempt to tickle ourselves, our brain anticipates this contact from the hands and prepares itself for it. By taking away the feeling of unease and panic, the body no longer responds the same as it would if someone else were to tickle us.

𝑩𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒔 𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒆 𝑳𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒏 have pinpointed the 𝘾𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙪𝙢 as the part of the brain that prevents us from self-tickling. The cerebellum is the region located at the base of the brain that monitors our movements. It can distinguish expected sensations from unexpected sensations. An expected sensation would be the amount of pressure your fingers apply to your keyboard while typing. An unexpected sensation would be someone sneaking up behind you and tapping you on the shoulder. While the brain discards the sensation of typing, it pays a lot of attention to someone tapping on your shoulder. The difference in reactions from expected to unexpected is a built-in response that probably developed in early human history to detect predators.

The human stomach can dissolve razor blades. Your stomach acids are stronger that, they can dissolve razor blades. The human body is far more capable than you might imagine. Acids are graded on a scale of 0 to 1, with 0 being the weakest and 1 being the strongest. It is because the hydrochloric in the human stomach is incredibly powerful and has a pH of 1.0 to 2.0, indicating that it is highly acidic. Scientists discovered that the "thickened back of a single-edged blade" dissolved after two hours of immersion in stomach acid, it was proven in a study published in the journal Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. But even though your stomach acids can handle a razor blade, it doesn't mean that you can actually swallow a razor blade.

Shrimp hearts🫀 are located in their heads! Looks like shrimp don’t have to choose when it comes to going with their head or their heart!
But what is the reason for this crustacean’s curious body composition?

The answer, of course, comes down to biology: which means that Shrimp School is back in session!

According to 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆, shrimp have their hearts – along with other vital organs such as their stomach and ventral nerve cord – inside of their heads due to the safety this part of the body provides over the tail-end.

If you’ve ever prepared head-on shrimp, then you’ll know that the head and thorax are the thickest and hardest parts of the body. This section, known as the cephalic portion, is covered with a thick protective substance, known as an exoskeleton. This exoskeleton guards the shrimp’s internal organs against harm, as damage to any of them could be fatal. Shrimp have evolved this way over time to help guarantee their survival.

That’s not the only interesting thing about shrimp hearts. They have three pairs of heart entrances where the blood comes in and out, circulating throughout the body. Compare this to the human heart, which has two pairs of chambers total: two atria up top and two ventricles down below. This is because unlike human hearts, which only have one entrance and exit from the ventricle, crustacean bodies have to coordinate the opening and closing of multiple valves to stay oxygenated underwater.

This just goes to show how a large amount of work goes into moving those little shrimp!

The Power of Honey

Honey will never rot. Ancient Egyptian tombs have been discovered to contain containers of honey that are over 3,000 years old and still perfectly edible by archaeologists.

But how can honey reign longer than a king?

Honey's longevity is due to three scientific factors: lack of moisture, acidity (at an average pH of 3.5), and bee bellies' enzyme, glucose oxidase, which blocks bacteria by forming hydrogen peroxide in their stomachs, making honey a healthier alternative to other spoilage-causing organisms.

In accordance with DepEd Memorandum No. 069, s. 2023, titled "𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐄𝐝’𝐬 𝟐𝟑𝟔,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐬: 𝐀 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐆𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧", the officers of Science Club participated in the tree planting activity together with SNHS SSLG and the other Club organizations on December 6, 2023.

The project provides a unique educational opportunity for students to actively participate in tree planting activities, fostering a deeper understanding of environmental issues and promoting conservation efforts. Through hands-on learning and practical application of environmental concepts, students will develop a strong sense of responsibility towards the environment. In addition to the educational benefits, planting trees will contribute to the beautification of school grounds. Trees provide shade, improve air quality, and create a calming atmosphere, enhancing the overall ambience of the school and creating a more pleasant and conducive learning environment for students.

When you put on headphones, you cover your ears from the natural air, which increases the production of bacteria by 700% in 1 hour. Your eardrums naturally cannot bear the influx of bacteria in that quantity, so they start to react by causing pain or hearing loss in the long term.

Secondly, when you are listening to fast music or high-beat sound that goes directly to your brain due to headphones, it affects the fine tissue or membrane of the brain. Eventually, the listener becomes hyper or excited, which is bad in the long run.

Frequent and constant use of earphones increases bacterial growth in the ear, and the sharing of earphones might be a potential vector of commensals. For example, airline headsets, headphones, stethoscope earpieces, and earphones can easily be vectors of potential pathogens, which can give rise to otitis externa. It is therefore always better not to share or else to clean the earphones before using or sharing.
