FROM EVANGELINE H. STRAUB - Do you know why Jesus' ministry began at the age of 30? In the Jewish culture, a son inherits everything his father has at that age. When John the Baptist baptized Jesus, "the heavens were opened to Him and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him." During Jesus' ministry, He possessed all that His Father had. As He walked around meeting, talking, touching, teaching and loving people, the Kingdom of God was operating in Him and through Him. As followers of Christ, we have that same Kingdom of God operating in us. Wherever we go, we carry the full inheritance of everything God the Father gave His Son Jesus Christ, our Lord. What a beautiful though that is and that should encourage us to serve the Lord with more vigor and enthusiasm.

FROM COOKIE CALAGUAS PUNO - "Our knowledge of and our ability to explain God’s Word matters little to the world that watches us. What truly matters is how we live our lives." Lord, make me a blessing to the world!

Reuter reports that a professor at Florida Atlantic University instructed his students to write "Jesus" in big letters on a piece of paper, place it on the floor and then step on the paper. He said he wanted to provoke a discussion of cultural symbols. That's evil manifesting itself.

Psalm 91:14,15 God says, “I will save those who love me and will protect those who acknowledge me as Lord. When they call to me, I will answer them; when they are in trouble, I will be with them. I will rescue them and honor them. (GNT)

FROM THE BIBLE - Psalm 73:25-26 What else do I have in heaven but you? Since I have you, what else could I want on earth? My mind and my body may grow weak, but God is my strength; he is all I ever need. (GNT)

Aug. 30/12 - Last night, the SOJC or the Soldier of Jesus Christ of Hercor College, which is the Christian youth group of the school, had another successful Night With the Lord. The picture on the left shows Ptra. Annabel, their coordinator, delivering a message to them about the need to win souls for Christ. The picture on the right shows the members of the SOJC going down on their knees to promise God that they will be like their young counterparts in China, Nigeria, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Palestine who are fearless in spreading Christianity in their respective countries. Their courage has even inspired Mosab Hassan Youself, the oldest son of the founding leader of Hamas, to join them. In this increasingly sinful world, the Lord needs the energy and the passion of young Christians to free those that the enemy has enslaved with sin. They have successfully done this before during the time of Jesus and there is no reason why they cannot do it again. Go soldiers!

Today’s Speaker (Fri., 8/24/12): Dr. Romeo Lorenzo
Message: “Five Signs Of An Ineffective Ministry” (Titus 1:5-9)

When there is rapid decrease of body weight, that is usually a sign that a person may be suffering from some kind of serious body illness. When a couple no longer eat out or watch movies together, that is usually a sign that is something is wrong with their relationship. There are telltale signs too of ineffective ministries. The first sign is when leaders and workers are so busy working for God that they are no longer able to enjoy fellowship with God. God may be pleased when we do something for Him but what He really wants is to have a close personal relationship with us which is not possible if we do not spend enough time with Him. Children of workaholic fathers feel the same way. They may be appreciative of what their dads are doing to insure their bright future, but what they really want is to have more time with their fathers who can teach them a lot about growing up the right way. Besides not every church work we do is ordained by God. Some are just products of our imagination and will accomplish nothing except to rob us of the precious time we could have spent communing with the Lord and meditating on His word. And this beehive of activity often leads to burn out or over fatigue. The second sign of an ineffective ministry is when leaders or workers of the church neglect their family for the sake of the ministry. It’s true that Jesus said He should be above everything else including our family but He never said we should neglect it. In fact, the family is very important to Lord and was the first ministry He put up. The church was just His second ministry. Why is the family so important to God? It's important to Him because it is in the family where we first learn the true meaning of love, where we learn the value of discipline and where we learn to depend on the judgment, love and care of our parents especially our father. If not for our family, we will not understand why God feels so much love for us and why He wants to be called our Heavenly Father. The third sign is when workers are allowed to lose their joy in the Lord under sustained pressure. This is the problem of many modern churches which are managed like big private corporations with goals and objectives that they require their pastors and workers, who are treated more like employees than shepherds, to meet. This can lead to stress which is responsible for many deaths in this modern age and loss of joy in serving the Lord which is the source of all strength. The fourth sign of ineffective ministry is when numerical or financial goals are set up in the place of vital spiritual achievements. There is nothing wrong with attaining high church membership growth or financial stability but the top priority of the church should be the spiritual maturity of its members and soul-winning. Someone once said that we are the hands, the feet and the mouth of the Lord and so it is our duty to carry on what He started here on earth and that is to win souls. And the fifth sign of an ineffective ministry is when workers are expected to build up the organization but there is no provision by the organization to build up the workers. Like everyone else, pastors and workers need training too. And so a church or organization must invest in upgrading their skills so that they will become more effective in their administrative work and furthering God's kingdom.
