The teamโs journey began at the 2026 ISU Roxas Campus Research Colloquium, where their study stood out for its relevance, innovation, and potential contribution to sustainable agribusiness development. Their strong performance earned them the opportunity to represent the campus at the next level of competition.
Advancing to the 2026 Cluster Search for Best Graduate and Undergraduate Research, the team competed against top student researchers from ISU Cauayan, ISU San Mateo, and ISU Roxas campuses. Their outstanding research and presentation earned them First Place in the Undergraduate Technical Research Category, securing their spot in the university-wide competition.
Building on their cluster-level success, the team advanced to the 2026 University Undergraduate and Graduate Research and Development Symposium at De Venecia Hall, ISU-Echague, where the universityโs top student researchers showcased innovative studies addressing contemporary societal, educational, technological, and developmental concerns.
Competing against the finest research papers from various ISU clusters, Lovero, Macalma, and Salguet once again demonstrated the strength of their work. The study showed how tomato overproduction can be transformed into an opportunity through a marketable tomato seasoning mix, integrating product innovation, agribusiness, and market feasibility to support agricultural sustainability and rural enterprise development.
The team earned First Place in the Undergraduate Technical Research Category at the university level, bringing honor to the School of Agriculture and Agribusiness and ISU Roxas Campus. Their achievement was recognized during the symposiumโs awarding ceremony and later honored with a plaque during the Araw ng Parangal of ISUโs 48th Founding Anniversary.
Beyond the award itself, the victory carries historic significance. According to the campus director for Research and Development, this marks the first time that the School of Agriculture and Agribusiness (SAA) has won a university-level research competition. The milestone highlights the growing research capability of Agribusiness students and the departmentโs commitment to producing impactful and community-responsive research.
As ISU strengthens its culture of research and innovation, the success of Lovero, Macalma, and Salguet inspires future student researchers. Their journey from the campus colloquium to the university-level competition demonstrates how dedication, innovation, and research excellence can create meaningful solutions for community and industry needs.
The historic victory not only celebrates academic excellence but also highlights the role of research in advancing sustainable agriculture, fostering innovation, and developing future agribusiness leaders.
