𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | More than an exchange of opinions—an exchange of knowledge, perspectives, and ideas.

On August 28, 2026, the CPC Debate Society conducted its first informal debate centered on the resolution: “Is S*x Education in the Philippines Age-Appropriate, Necessary, and Beneficial?”

Both sides presented compelling arguments, relevant information, and supporting details to defend their respective positions. Through an informative and engaging exchange, the debaters explored both the potential benefits and challenges surrounding s*x education in the Philippine context.

Yet beyond the arguments and rebuttals, the debate also highlighted what meaningful discourse should look like. Despite the intensity of the discussion, both sides maintained respect and professionalism—proving that debate is not simply about proving who is right, but about listening, learning, and presenting ideas with clarity and respect.

Because in a good debate, you may defend a position—but you should always leave with a better understanding of the issue.

We brought back a previous issue to revisit the 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝘅 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀. Read the full written exchange below.

“𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝘅 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?”

In the Philippines, the foundation of s*x education rests on the 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟮 (𝗥.𝗔. 𝟭𝟬𝟯𝟱𝟰), which mandates age-appropriate instruction on reproductive health, consent, and human development. To operationalize this policy, the 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗘𝗱 𝗢𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼. 𝟯𝟭, 𝘀. 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟴, integrating Comprehensive S*xuality Education across key grade levels:
• 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝟱: Puberty, reproductive anatomy, hygiene, personal boundaries, and healthy relationships.
• 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝟲: Pregnancy, childbirth, gender roles, and daily consent.
• 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝟳: Adolescent identity, emotional development, and romantic relationships.
• 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝟴: S*xual orientation, STIs (including HIV/AIDS), and contraceptive methods like condoms.
(Note: Implementation and teaching strategies may vary per institution.)

Despite these legal guidelines, the policy remains a 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁. Critics—including various parents, religious institutions, and conservative groups—raise concerns online that these lessons risk normalizing early s*xual activity and compromising traditional values.

To examine both sides of this debate, selected debaters from the 𝗖𝗣𝗖 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 clash under a strictly 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸:
• 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗲 defends R.A. 10354 and DepEd Order No. 31, arguing that structured s*x education is essential and beneficial for youth development.
• 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗲 challenges these mandates, contending that s*x education is unnecessary and ultimately unhelpful.
• 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸: Arguments are restricted to empirical data, policy analysis, and verified international and local sources. Personal opinions and religious doctrines are strictly prohibited.

The meeting brought our officers together to map out the Society’s programs, initiatives, and activities for the year ahead. From sharpening our plans to exchanging ideas, the discussion was all about building a Society where critical thinking is encouraged, meaningful discourse is welcomed, and every voice has room to be heard.

From critical thinking to confident speaking, meaningful discourse to questionable levels of confidence—we’re ready to make this year one worth talking about.

New officers. New plans. Same love for a good argument. AY 2026–2027, let’s make some points. Literally.
