FCU Peer Facilitators Unite for Mental Health Awareness ‘25

In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Day 2025, the FCU Peer Facilitators Organization (PFO) gathered members from High School to College for the Basic Peer Facilitating Seminar and Fellowship at the Kindergarten Hall, Oct. 11.

With the theme “Shine Through: Spreading Light, Spreading Care,” the event served as both a training ground and a wellness advocacy, aiming to strengthen campus peer facilitators’ role in promoting mental health support within the university.

A major highlight of the morning session was the Mental Health Awareness Talk, initiated by the Guidance and Counseling Center led by Ms. Faith Joy V. Faderan, Guidance Staff and PFO Adviser. Focusing on the 2025 global theme, “Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies,” Ms. Faderan shared the importance of empathy, resilience, and accessibility of mental health support services, especially for students facing academic, personal challenges, and the impact of recent calamities.

Following the discussion, Ms. Faderan also facilitated a Basic Peer Facilitating Training, which aimed to equip campus peer facilitators with practical skills in peer engagement, appropriate peer response and proper referrals.

“Throughout the training po, I learned so many things about leadership, communication, and how to approach people with empathy and understanding. It made me realize na being a peer facilitator isn’t just about guiding others, but also about being there for them — lalo na sa pag-listen, support, and sa pag-help sa kanila, and ma-feel man nila nga ara kita na makakakita and makakarinig sa kanila,” said Rhanch Lorenz Cruz, participant of the event.

The afternoon session continued with acquaintance and fellowship activities organized by this academic year’s PFO officers, including group sharing and team games designed to strengthen connection and unity among the diverse group of peer facilitators.

“I am looking forward to empowering students to step out of their comfort zones and overcome their fears. Through this, they can discover their true potential and confidence in serving others. The Peer Facilitators Organization plays a vital role in shaping this growth within our institution”, said Leonel Ceddrick Parreñas, PFO President.

Beyond empowering students to promote mental well-being, the organization plans to strengthen and increase the number of peer facilitators across the university, ensuring that mental health and peer support remains accessible to all.

The FCU Guidance and Counseling Center joins the celebration of World Mental Health Awareness Day 2025, under the theme ‘Access to Services - Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies’.

This year’s observance reminds us that in every crisis or challenge, support and understanding should always be within reach.

In line with this advocacy, we invite our Peer Facilitators to the Basic Peer Facilitation Training and Acquaintance Party tomorrow, October 11, 2025 (Saturday), 8:00 AM at FCU Kindergarten Hall

Our Guidance and Counselling Center (GCC) is open on August 7 to 8 only for the following transactions:

1. Scheduling of Entrance Examination
2. Request for Good Moral Certificates

Additionally, there will be NO ENTRANCE EXAMINATION this Saturday, August 9.

All GCC satellite offices will remain closed until Saturday, August 9.

Office operations will resume on Monday, August 11.
