A powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off the coast of General Santos City this morning, June 8, 2026, at approximately 7:37 AM. The quake was relatively shallow, with a depth of only 10 kilometers, resulting in strong ground shaking that reached Intensity VII in General Santos City and nearby areas.

Authorities have also issued a tsunami warning for coastal provinces that may be affected, urging residents to remain vigilant and follow official advisories and evacuation orders when necessary.

In times like these, let us keep the people of General Santos City and neighboring communities in our thoughts and prayers.

May everyone remain safe, calm, and prepared as authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide updates.

Prayers for General Santos and all affected areas. 🙏
